Very small
It’s very short, and basic. I wouldn’t waste my money.

Good way to start the conversation with your family
After discussing the possible reasons why and impact of the grid going down, there are many good ideas for preparing for that time. While many are similar to other author's books, Mr. Jackson includes those preparations for sanitation (toiletry/latrines, etc) and overall personal hygiene not always found elsewhere. In addition, the section on keeping a healthy environment adds ideas for keeping you and your family occupied through the long down time without TV and video games. This is a good starter for opening the topic with your family and get them involved in planning since they will surely participate when the grid goes down.

good, practical suggestions
I've read a lot of this type advice and found this to be a very well-written, concise, objective booklet. Most I knew about, but the advice about calcium hypochlorite was new and valuable and now on my list of supplies to stock. I felt the book was especially valuable to the skeptical individual who may not realize how vulnerable we can be nor how easily it can happen.

He reads lots of books like this and said this one did have some neat ...
I have not read the book but posting going off of my husbands reactions. He reads lots of books like this and said this one did have some neat ideas in it, but all in all was just a "take it or leave it" kind of read for him.

What to Do When the Lights Go Out
This book was a real eye-opener! Like the author points out, we've all experienced short power outages, but few of us have consideredeffects of a long-term outage. Lack of clean water, food spoilage, and difficulty getting supplies are just some of the problems thatwould arise from a prolonged power outage. Of course, preparation is the key to facing such disasters, and Jim Jackson's book is loadedwith valuable, practical steps to take in order to be prepared for a loss of power that could last months.

A primer for the novice, at best
It reads more like a children's book than a serious guide for emergency preparation. Many basics were left out of all the sections but it may be a good conversation starter for those who have no preparations and are thinking about it. The biggest problem is that some one may think that this is all there is to it. That could be a deadly mistake. There are many good guide books out there and several web sites that offer more information for free.

Useful
While I would not consider myself a prepper I have always kept a good supply of food etc at home. The pandemic has made me think more about what you need to survive, not from zombies or the like but power failure. I know that here in the UK that is extremely rare, but it might happen. This book gives you a good starting point to the things you might need.

This is more like a pamphlet than a book
very very thin "book", more like a pamphlet... I guess that number of pages must be marked in description, but didnt notice when I ordered it.

Good introduction to subject
At an hour long, not the most detailed coverage but certainly a good starting point of the subject. Sensible and well written, which is more than can be said for many in this genre. If you like this try Tony Nester, David Crossley, Lisa Bedford.
