My dog loves it

This is the dog food I buy for our 12 year old rescue dog. Officially he is past his actuarial age, being a mix of lab and fox hound, normal age for shuffling off this mortal land is 12 for both breeds. He has just had his annual mot, apart from a non-symptomatic heart murmer which hasn't got any worse in 2 years, his bloods etc are prefectly normal. He has been deaf from birth and is a great family member. I wouldn't feed my husband some cheap muck, I want him to be fit and health. Why do people feed their animals on cheap food? If you feed your dog this I can't categorically guarantee that they will not be poorly. However, I can categorically say that if you follow the chart, feed the correct amount, exercise him/her appropriately you will have a greater chance of lessening your vet's bills. Neither of the crossbreds I have had has ever cost me more than £192.00 for a bill, basically I think this feed is so balanced that it keeps them in tip top condition. Bear in mind that both my rescue dogs were over 8 when I got them that this is probably almost unheard of. They both came from homes where they had been over-weight for part of their life and not feed the best. My daughter is a vet nurse and specalises in animal nutrituion and she does not recommend any other food, except where a dog has to have a medicinal vet food for a specific disease. James Wellbeloved does a range of these foods, from puppy to senior in a variety of flavours to cater for food allergies - even dogs have them. There will be one that is suitable for your breed's size and age, pick accordingly and change up according to the dogs age and you too should have a health animal for a very long time.

My dog liked this but I stopped buying it due to it swelling in the stomach. I found it made him very thirsty and he was always drinking but this has reduced after finding a food that didn’t swell. He has epilepsy, liver issues and a heart murmur so I have to be careful!

I literally NEVER write reviews but I thought I really need to share my experience, even if it helps one dog/owner. I have fed my cocker spaniel with bakers for around 6 years with no issues. She is now coming up to 13 years old and around 6 months ago she started peeing on the floor every night (really not like her) unsettled, panting and her appetite was ravenous and she appeared to be loosing weight. After a trip to the vets for bloods which came back normal, I thought I would try a higher quality hypoallergenic food (James well beloved senior) to see if it made a difference and bought a 2kg small bag. Her symptoms literally resolved in 2 days!!! I thought that this could be a complete coincidence so when the 2kg bag ran out I still had a huge bag of bakers so I resumed with that. The weeing/panting/restlessness symptoms returned in a few days. I’m not sure why but I imagine it want agreeing with her kidneys as I have read that is highly processed and has been compared to feeding your dog McDonald’s. So now she is on the James Wellbeloved food, it’s more expensive, but I’m so glad she has returned to being a settled and healthy dog and I don’t have to clean up wee every morning. So changing food is definitely worth a try if anyone else’s dog is having issues. I have also started using natural mixers like egg, lentils, brown rice, Mackrel, tuna, carrot to mix in for a little taste instead of any ultra processed stuff. Hope this helps.

James Wellbeloved is my dog food of choice. Balanced, nutritious, and since being on it my dogs have settled digestive systems (always a pleasant bonus) and shiny healthy coats. I can honestly say that I have never had any issues with this food at all. I have, currently, a Junior dog, an adult dog and a senior dog, and all of them are on the different varieties of this food according to their age and needs. The senior food is lower in protein as the older dogs do not need as much, they are out of their growing phase by the time they need this (7+ years) and for dogs that have a tendency to weight gain, this food is perfect for balanced nutrition. The one and only downside is that there is something within the senior food that produces larger-than-normal amounts of gas in the dog. At first it is funny, then embarrasing, then you kind of get used to the fact that three hours after a meal you relocate the dog to a room with an open window for a time, or plug in a freshener in the room. It's not a major issue and I have had worse with other foods, but it is wise to know WHY your geriatric pooch has suddenly become overly flatulent. Other than that, highly reccomended and as there are a few flavours in this food, the dog never seems to get bored!
