We have never re-upolstered before, so I don't know how it works with out the tool. It seems to only last 300 tacks, then it gets stretched out and no longer holds the tack secure. For us this was 1 chair and we have another chair to go. The tool took a long time to get to me and it is a bit pricey for 1 chair, so we are going to keep trucking on. Review: it works - This thing worked exactly as described, I can see how it might only function well for a couple of jobs, but for the price I find that perfectly acceptable.
