Practical Wisdom
I don't usually tend to enjoy or even read business books, but Troy Stevenson here finds a way to apply, in an easy-to-read and approachable way, practical wisdom to an array of issues a manager in businesses might face. Using his youth sports coaching career as a jumping off point, Troy has written bite-sized chapters that lay out challenges, then suggest ways to attack those challenges practically and efficiently. For the experienced manager, this book is a reminder of what we "should" be doing, and why: setting challenging but attainable goals, providing feedback, providing guidance to younger co-workers on their careers, etc.. For the new manager, Troy goes through just about all the issues one might face, then dispenses easy-to-follow approaches to addressing them. This is a book I will recommend to younger folks in my organization.
