Review: Great HDD - I ordered the 6TB 20th Anniversary Emerald Edition drive in September and have been using it ever since. I have owned several WD Passport HDDs and have never been disappointed in their performance. I feel certain that as capacities continue to increase, I'll end up buying more in years to come. In spite of my overwhelmingly positive opinion about this HDD, there is one design issue that I find absolutely baffling. The LED is on the same end of the drive as the USB-C jack where the data cable is inserted. To my way of thinking, this is backwards- the data port should be on the rear of the unit and the LED should be on the OPPOSITE end. Having both the LED and USB-C port on the same end means that to have the unit positioned so the LED is visible, you have a cable sticking out and projecting toward you. It's helpful for a number of reasons for any HDD to have an LED- I believe it is an important and necessary design feature. But to see it, you have a cable projecting toward you...this is the nuttiest design I have ever seen and I don't know how it ever entered production with such an awkward feature.

I ordered the 6TB 20th Anniversary Emerald Edition drive in September and have been using it ever since. I have owned several WD Passport HDDs and have never been disappointed in their performance. I feel certain that as capacities continue to increase, I'll end up buying more in years to come. In spite of my overwhelmingly positive opinion about this HDD, there is one design issue that I find absolutely baffling. I made a clone of my iMac on a 2 TB SSD. this 6 TB passport Ultra backs it up with Time Machine perfectly. the first backup took a little time but then it works in the background just fine. backups are quick and you won’t notice until you need it.
