It's about 1 1/2" wide. Would fit in Jeans belt loops....they fit in my son's loops.

Q: have 44" waist what size should i get 36" to 44" or 44" to 50"

Assuming accuracy in your numbers, logic suggests that you get the belt best-suited to your likely future weight.
