The best Super Monkey Ball game since 1 & 2, with excellent controls and level design. It’s jam packed with content and is a lot of fun to play. Highly recommended!

I was a big fan of Super Monkey Ball from the beginning. The first two game cube editions were fantastic but since then, Sega have made various tweaks such as Boss Battles which resulted in far inferior product. Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble relies on the original developers and takes the game back to its original format virtually. The main difference is rather than game play split into three difficulty settings, this time you play through a series of worlds which increase in difficulty. There are over 200 levels. There are a few new additions such as collecting the golden banana and spin dash function. However, I can’t help but feel the developers could have been more creative such as unlocking bonus levels for collecting golden bananas or adding harder exits in the level which warp you to special stages. Also, gone are the bonus banana collecting stages which used to be cool and they have added quite lengthy cinematic sections in between worlds which don’t really add anything to the overall feel of the game. Overall, this is definitely a step in the right direction but the game is starting to feel like it’s aged and the developed could have used more imagination to develop the overall game further. Verdict: 4 stars
