In this new edition of the standard undergraduate textbook on electricity and magnetism, David Griffiths provides expanded discussions on topics such as the nature of field lines, the crystal ambiguity, eddy currents, and the Thomson kink model. Ideal for junior and senior undergraduate students from physics and electrical engineering, the book now includes many new examples and problems, including numerical applications (in Mathematica) to reflect the increasing importance of computational techniques in contemporary physics. Many figures have been redrawn, while updated references to recent research articles not only emphasize that new discoveries are constantly made in this field, but also help to expand readers' understanding of the topic and of its importance in current physics research. Great classical text.
For Engineering students Sadiku is better , but for Physics students Griffiths is better. 5th edition is almost the same as 4th edition , more than 95percent exercises are the same as in the 4th edition . Solution manual of 4th edition is available online , so even for self study this book is great.

The best Electrodynamics
Buy Jackson instead, if you're not a biggener. Easily one of the greatest books ever written in the history of physics textbooks.

Best book on Electromagnetism !
Though there are other good books like Jackson... I like Griffith from my early college days due to its superb blend of math and physics. Also the informal style of discussion and good collection of problems make this book unique 👍

Good book but 16 pages are missing
I received book in good condition. Paper quality is okay. As usual Griffith book is fantastic, lucid and well explained. But almost 16 pages are missing. So may be l have to order another copy.

Difficult Problems
I am coming from an electrical engineering background albeit, my experience is mainly in control systems and signal processing. I am self-studying this book and I am struggling. I am able to follow the mathematical arguments the author makes during the text, but I often feel defeated with many of the problems - especially the additional ones at the end of the chapter. If I were to pin point my struggle it is with the symmetry arguments and physical assumptions Griffith’s makes/expects you to make. I don’t think he explains these in detail during the text, and my engineering background has not prepared me well to make these. Perhaps I tried jumping to deep into the subject without having the appropriate prerequisites. I feel mislead by my online research as many people said that vector calculus - which I studied beforehand - is really the only prerequisite. Aside from my struggle, the book is written in a friendly tone, it has nice diagrams, and plenty of problems.

Great textbook for great value!
Love this book, as it is incredibly helpful for my studies in electromagnetic physics. I was planning to just share a library copy with a friend, and/or use a pdf from the web, but nothing beats having your own book, and to then flip through the pages on your own. Another factor was the price; there were so many of these USED textbooks that were over $150NZD, some even going for about $300NZD excluding shipping, so when this Amazon listing appeared, I was over the moon with getting what I need for this semester, and for the electromagnetism course next year. One of the few times that I will buy a textbook, as I’ll use it at least twice, AND it wasn’t as expensive as it typically is :)
