There’s nothing on the label to say if it’s acid free, but I’ve been using it for some time without problems. My only slight reservation is that it’s on the thin side.

Q: Can you paint over it

Sort of. Some paints (gloss etc) will dry eventually. Other (satin etc) do dry but stay tacky, so slightly sticky. Try it out. Best used for edging carpet etc before painting.

Q: Can you use this for marking scuba tanks ? I.e can you write in it with a marker and will it come off once underwater ?

I took an inch of tape, stuck it to a clear glass cup, filled it with water, swirled the water around a bit and noticed it starts to slowly peel, so no. ( I have far too much time on my hands ! )
