Tails Are Not for Pulling (Board Book) (Best Behavior Series)

Super cute book for kids with or without animal experience
While kids with pets should be introduced to pets and proper behavior around animals, not all kids get that experience. I recommend this cute and simple book to those both with and without kids and pets to help them understand body language and keep them all safe. Nice pictures and very simple wording, fun for animal noises as well!

Helpful, little by little
It’s a good concept and way to start the conversation. My toddler is almost 3 and seems to be almost done pulling my poor dogs’ fur. I wish it stopped as soon as I read this book, but she still persisted, albeit less and less every time I pull this book out. Patience to all the pet and people parents, and continue redirecting to books about compassion. I appreciate how it is written from the animals’ point of view, with clear and colorful illustrations, and we also love hands are not for hitting (also in this series). It really seems to help at age two to repeat a mantra, redirect to a calming activity like reading, and also provides ideas for positive ways to interact. Our way is to give the dogs gentle pets and a treat to help them feel better after being hurt. Now she looks at other animals and says things like “noses are for nuzzling!” Thank you for this loving book.

Wonderful Board Books - Clear Messages
This series is great for younger kids or kids that may need some reminders about basic conduct/manners/hygiene. The message is clear and direct, the colors are great, and the words are repetitive enough that they make for wonderful early readers as well. Our autistic son needs these reminders to help him navigate life in public school and he loves these books. These are board books, so they hold up well to the love they will surely receive. This one is especially nice if you have a new pet coming into the home.

Teaching your kids good manners starts early
This book and the others from THE BEST BEHAVIOR series has been very helpful in letting young one know right away that our animals are fun, but not for rough play. I've even noticed my child saying to one of their neighborhood friends outside with the dog, "don't pull Rocky's tail, it might make him mad". This warms my heart to see they are listening, but that they are also showing other kids that it isn't alright to rough play with dogs and cats. All the books in this series have these same undertones for the little ones. You are enjoying reading to them, you aren't lecturing them or yelling at them for doing something that would naturally occur to any kid. You are instructing them on how to best enjoy their pets and teaching them respect for animals. We started this book about 6 months of age and read off and on for the first 18 months, more when he started crawling and walking and could chase the dog around. That wagging tail was motivation to get moving. Now at age 3 he knows to not pull the cats tail or mess with Rocky. Seeing my son tell the 2 year old next door is proof that they will learn all good manners with a calm and fun reading time.

perfect!!
I bought the board book version thru the Kindle app and while that version was good, this version was better for my daughter as it teaches more empathy than the other. Explains pets have feelings and can get hurt if you are not gentle.I definitely think a 2.5-3 year old can understand this book. The text is short so it's not too long for a toddler to sit through. This has really helped my daughter who was having trouble understanding that let's have feelings, and that what she thinks is normal playing is teasing. It has also helped her remember to ask pet owners before trying to run up and hug little dogs.

Cutest book, and it actually works!
Such a cute little book! My 16 month old daughter started pulling my cats tail to the point where he would run away from her and she catch him and wrestle him and yank him around. Poor thing. I immediately bought this book, every time she would try and pull his tail we would sit down and read it. After 2 days she reduced her attacks on him dramatically and after a week or two she was no longer beating up our cat. Now they are best friends. Win win for mama! The storyline is also great, very direct but also adorable. My daughter loved it and would bring the book for me to read to her.

Cute
This is a cute book, my toddler likes it purely because we go through all the animal sounds together. My slightly older kids have only read it once because it's for tinier people, but hey! None of them have pulled the puppies tail, yet.

Empathetic and intelligent
This is my #1 choice. The 4 year old was committing all the behaviours in the book!Reading and gentle discussion have eradicated the behaviours.

Great teaching material
Great teaching material. My son is 2 and understood the concept of the book. Love hearing him repeat the title to guest about to stroke the cats.
