Buy Flexcut Pro Series Wood Carving Tools | 1 3/8 inch Detail Knife | Full Flat Grind 1095 Steel Blade| Ergonomic Knife, FP01: Wood Carving Tools - desertcart.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases Review: Outstanding carving knife - I’ve only been carving a couple of years but I have amassed a box full of carving knives searching for the perfect knife. Everybody says that Helvie knives are the best. You can’t buy one because they are so popular there is a waiting list of buyers. I bought the Flexcut carving knife first. This is the sharpest knife I have ever carved with. My carvings look so much better, I bought the detail knife. Same results. The handle is large and very comfortable, giving me the control I need. The flat grind blade slides through the wood like butter. End grain cuts are smooth and long. They hold an edge longer and they are very easy to sharpen. I may have found my favorite knife. My only complaint is that I have broken the tip off of two detail knives. I didn’t drop it, use any excessive force or twist the blade. I’ve never broken the tip on any other knife I have. So, I’m learning how to repair the tips and one knife works pretty well, not as well as the original. You can put your name on the list for a Helvie knife and use the Flexcut Pro knives while waiting two years for the Helvie arrive. Buy them on desertcart, though. Ordering from Flexcut takes forever. Review: Knife sharp - Knife sharp tip real sharp they grind flat, fit in small spaces

Excellent flat ground blade, rough handle which is easy enough to fix. Should not have to.
I first bought the 1 5/8 model. I was not happy with the finish on the handle. It looked and felt like rough-sawn lumber. However, the blade is exceptionally sharp, with a full flat grind, and it cuts through the wood even more effectively than my old Flexcut knives. So I kept it and sanded and re-finished the handle. Since then, it's become my favorite knife. This is why I ordered the detail knife, and yes, while not as bad as the first one, I had to sand that handle as well. So far, both knives have been amazing. No chips or broken tips. Flexcuts always come sharp; they need to improve the finishing of those cherry wood handles. I've always been a fan of those ash whale tale handles, but these new ones are even more comfortable, and they have plenty of stock on them if you want to customize them to your preferences or just sand them so you don't get splinters or feel the fuzziness of the wood. Hopefully Flexcut will fix these handles soon since others have mentioned the same issue.

Tip bent
The tip of the blade bent after just a little while. got this knife to see if I can improve detail around the eyes of my 1x1x3 in, carvings. soft basswood. It has been in the drawer and not being used. Maybe I can spend hours fixing it, or just take a loss and leave it in the drawer. I have 4 other knives to use anyway, I just thought this would be a good one.

Great Edge Holding and Comfortable Handle - Weak Tip
The flat grind on the excellent steel makes stropping a fast and painless exercise, which is a big deal when you’re carving 5-6 hours a day. The knife comes perfectly sharpened and it’s easy to keep it that way. The handle is extremely comfortable. Some people complain about the finish, but it’s a real, working finish. The handle takes on a life of its own after some use and doesn’t flake off and look permanently ugly like slick varnishes. My only complaint is the tip is weak. Mine snapped off after less than a week. I’ve never had a problem with a Flexcut tool before, so I’m going to buy another and give it a second chance.
