The BeanSafe is a worthy purchase for coffee aficionados
This is a sturdy, sharp looking place to store your coffee. As far as keeping the beans fresh, I've tried an unscientific test to see if it works. Here's what I did. I bought one 2 lb bag of my favorite gourmet coffee, opened the bag and immediately emptied half the contents into the bean safe. The rest I left in the bag.About ten days later I was down to my last few beans in the bag so I made two batches of coffee, one from the BeanSafe and one from the original bag. I ground them both up at the same time and brewed a cup. I did a blind taste test (using an impartial judge to keep track of which cup was what) and I could tell the difference right away. The cup that came out of the BeanSafe were noticeably less acidic and had a great flavor. I could tell the difference, although I wouldn't say that the beans left in the original bag were undrinkable. They just didn't taste as smooth. If you are a coffee snob who is looking to make your cup of joe taste a little bit fresher as you work your way through the bag, this is a worthy investment. If you are someone who doesn't drink daily but likes to have fresh tasting coffee occasionally, then this would suit you nicely.I would buy again, however, I would probably splurge the extra few bucks and go with the stainless steel version.

Convenient and Well Made.... Black and Mocha colors look very similar!
I bought two of these containers. The lid snaps shut easily to make an airtight seal, with four tabs. The size and shape are just what I want for my cabinet, and it holds a couple weeks coffee for my needs.I haven't done a head-to-head test, but I do think my coffee tastes better compared with my previous method of storing in the bag I bought it and rolling up the top. Before I owned this, I also tended to a few days worth of beans in my grinder hopper (where they can get stale as it's not airtight). The simplicity of opening and closing this encourages me to put just a few beans in the grinder and leave the rest in here to stay fresh. One caveat: I purchased both the black and the mocha, initially hoping to store regular coffee in one and decaf in the other and tell them apart by the color. However, the color is nearly the same...I can only tell the difference if I take the two containers out of the cabinet, hold them up to the light and look carefully. As a result I've used tape to label my decaf.

The proof is in the blooming
Let me start by saying I'm not a coffee guru from Seattle. I'm just a small town country boy trying to make a better cup of joe.So I started brewing chemex style with beans crushed in a burr grinder. In this way of brewing coffee, you pour near boiling water directly over your grounds. You start with a light soak of the grounds and they expand or bloom. The thing is, they only bloom if they are fresh. I wasn't having much success storing the beans in the bag they came in. Halfway through the bag, the beans would not produce a bloom for me. So, enterprising as I am, I hopped on Amazon and looked for a bean storage solution.I picked up the bean safe and I'm happy to say that my coffee is now blooming down to the last bean.I was drawn to the bean safe by the outstanding reviews, and their elegant method of releasing the co2. There are no filters to replace. Seriously, do you need another thing in your life to remember to do?I'm glad I found the weak link in my search for a better home brew. Coffee storage! Don't overlook it!

No more effective than a glass jar with an airtight lid.
I am dissapointed with this "Bean Safe". It is nothing more than a very thin plastic container with flimsy clasps, and of course the famed one way valve. The problem that I see with this is of course when you put your pound of coffee in the container (which doesn't quite fit I may add), then sure it's doing to keep the oxygen out. But once you are down to a 1/2 pound or so, then there is still so much oxygen trapped in the container that the coffee is going to spoil even though no additional oxygen can enter the container. My experience is that the coffee stays fresher not one day longer in this bean safe than if I were using a standard airtight container. One additional note, is that when you unpack your bean safe, the plastic absolutely reeks of chemicals. Even after a good washing, it still takes a long while for the smell to leave. My conclusion is that if you aren't going to use some sort of active, vacuum seal device, you are just as good using a glass container with a screw-top lid, or even just keeping the coffee wrapped up in the original bag.

Coffee bean storage
I really like the storage container. My previous one was ceramic and quite heavy. Had to replace because it slipped out of my hand and broke part of the rim. I like the weight of this one and the snaps that secure the lid. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because I'd ordered the Mocha colored canister and the one that was shipped was black. The sku number on the box matched the one on the order so believe the error was the packaging from the manufacturer.September 17, 2013: Additional comment about coffee bean storage container. It holds a full pound of coffee - yea

Build quality is nice. A lot of complaints I have seen across multiple products is the expectation that the device will draw all air out of the canister (creating a vacuum). Nothing in this price point is capable of this. This product has a unique one-way valve which allows your beans to off gas without letting more ambient air into the canister. I have no way of validating this. Seems to be working though. At any rate, it's a well built, opaque canister for storing coffee beans.

Only a storage container
It's ok as a coffee container. However, I don't think that it actually keeps the coffee fresh. The push valve doesn't seem to create any sort of a vacuum after it expels air. I'm not too sure why it's there in the first place. It looks fine, and if anything it still holds my coffee beans. I wouldn't count on it to keep them fresh for very long though.
