First electric fence and first charger, I picked a good one.
For duck protection from my moronic but lovable Oxford Mississippi adopted mutts. Dogs first and 8 years later ducks. Well dogs like the ducks, in ways that are unhealthy for ducks. No life lost yet but.... without a preventive measure there will be. For years I have contemplated GPS and collar based control systems having used them in decades past for waterdog training. My yard had a simple need, a barrier to prevent a dog from destroying a fence, or going under, to get to my ducks. I read up on electric fences and had initial concerns about many chargers and systems that could produce an injury. Well its about about the Joules. I work in electronics, familiar with the Joule. If your looking to control small animals that have injury potential (unlike a horse or cattle), then sub-1.0 Joule is the answer. As low as you can go and still get 7-10kv out of it is optimal. Pulsing systems, optimal. A system with inherent DEFECTS in conductivity, optimal! I took a few measures to ensure I could deliver 8kv and also ensure absolute bare minimal current support for the charge. My dogs are medium, lab/aussie mixes both. One is violent with other animals, very territorial and the lead bonehead in all matters. The other is stupid, a lover, just follow dork brotard around and monkey see, monkey do. I used a polywire on two strands (Amazon), 50 insulator kit (Amazon) with this charger. I needed SOLAR, didn't want to run yet another circuit to more duck related devices. The fenceline is short and if you understand V, I and R then you know 8kv charger even as low as 0.18joule energy, will produce outstanding current pulses at that same 8kv. Maybe if my wire was 1000 feet, 3000feet, 10k feet, it would be no matter and underpowered. R matters folks. Wire is not copper in the polythread, high resistance on purpose. To ensure this charger could not deliver more than a nasty pop, I added more R. Rather than a 4 or 8 foot, 5/8" ground rod for earthing, I used a 3 foot, 1/2 inch rebar. I have extremely moist soil year round in West TN, I have ducks that keep that clay quite conductive. The rebar has low surface area, high resistance and rusts which i a very poor conductor (insulator is better). The Epoify charger is an alligator clamp type charger. This adds yet more R to the circuit. Each added resistance value to several thousand ohms allows for V to stay high under zero load. When loaded, V rapidly falls to a value (untested but I will likely submit myself for human testing soon) well below that 8kv. When a dog hits it, paws all calloused, fur insulating likely, it gets hit with a proper slap. But that is it. Unlike the full Monty of a training collar taken OFF of click mode where it will drive continuous (dog making a break early in training), the dog doesn't flop on the ground, it thinks "I should not do that again". Ill make a wager there is only 4-6kv under load. My fence is almost 6 feet and a double span in the 3 to 10 inch above ground level is all there is. So maybe 120 feet of polywire. If ground proper, that would induce a far more stout blast and that is not needed to prevent a dog from a fence line, unless you have a brute breed who needs a harder slap. Tightly bonded outputs (not alligator clips) further reduce R and enable to system to slap too hard. I used a fence tester (Amazon, like $11.00) to validate I am at 8kv open circuit. As for the solar part, device mounted on a T-post, facing sun, no trees. I have had it running for about 5 weeks now. It is UP all the time, 24/7, I have only gone out a few times to validate it is alive and well. Literally it has been a miracle in the yard. The dogs are respectful of that fence line. The ducks sit 6 inches from that wire on the other side of the cattle wire fence, in a puddle of water/mud, in the shade, inches from it. Dogs now sit and either watch the ducks from a distance of 20 feet, or they lay on a patio and spectate. It took each dog roughly 3 events each. All were witnessed. Order was gained in the yard. They still bark and chase the neighbors girlfriend dog on unprotected fences, that's great. Chase squirrels, other birds, etc. But my livestock, ducks, are no longer something to even pay attention to. As a matter of fact, the dogs would rather be outside in 98F/95%H with the ducks for 12 hours a day, than be in the A/C home where they used to be more inclined to stay. They "enjoy" the ducks now, like we do, they are part of the landscape, not invaders. The charger works, really, really well. I charged it for 3 days on kitchen counter before deployment and deployment was laughable easy. Unsure what else I can say. So far no negatives. Ill post again if the outcome changes in any way due to the charger performance or longevity. Consider this as an option if you need fenceline control of dogs with compassion. I didn't want to hurt my dogs, I wanted to curb a behavior which was not conducive to our home. Without having to be immersed in some training system for months with an invisible fence and radio collars, I was able to generate passive control, teach the dogs w/o my intervention. Dogs don't fear the fence, then have respect for it, don't get within 2-3 feet of it and that is exactly the behavior I wanted. PS.... Keep the grass/weeds/growth in control. Its all about R (resistance). When you have a bunch of green leafy leaches draining current from the system in a bunch of parallel leaks (grass blade to earth), no system will survive. My system is in the grass range so when growth is 4 inches, I have potential for current leaks and that will tax and eventually destroy the charger (any charger). Keep your grass away from the energized wires. Easy. Good luck

Great little but powerful electric fence
I recently picked up the Epoify 24-Hour Solar Electric Fence Charger and overall, I’m impressed. The first thing that caught my attention is that it’s fully solar powered and recharges itself during the day. That’s a big win for me since it keeps running costs down and saves the hassle of replacing or recharging batteries. The manufacturer advertises coverage for up to 10 miles of fencing and claims it delivers around 10,200 volts with about 0.18 joules of power, pretty solid numbers for a compact, portable unit. There are a few things I really like about it. The solar charging feature makes it a great option for remote pastures or areas without easy access to electricity. If it truly keeps running 24/7, it’s a big convenience upgrade. The stated 10-mile range is also impressive for a unit this size, and the voltage rating should be enough to keep livestock in and unwanted visitors out, as long as the fence is in good shape and the lines are clear. I also appreciate how portable it is. It’s not a big, bulky unit, so it’s easier to move around and set up on different fence lines when needed. That said, there are a few things to keep in mind. Like most solar chargers, the “up to 10,200 volts” number is likely under ideal conditions, full sun, short and clean fence line, and no vegetation grounding the wire. Performance may drop on cloudy days or if the fence isn’t well maintained. The power output is only 0.18 joules, which is fine for smaller enclosures but might not deliver a strong enough jolt for larger animals or long fence runs. Since it’s exposed to the elements, durability of the solar panel and internal battery will matter over time. If you need heavy-duty power or maximum reliability during storms or high-stress situations, you may want to invest in a higher-joule unit or one with a backup power option. Overall, I think this is a great solution for light to moderate use, perfect for small farms, gardens, or hobby livestock setups where convenience and solar power are priorities. It’s easy to set up, portable, and offers good value for the price. Just make sure your fence is well maintained and that your needs don’t exceed its power capacity. If you’re running very long fence lines or keeping in large, strong animals, you might want to step up to a more powerful charger.

Great Solar Fence Charger for Protecting My Vegetable Garden!
I got this solar electric fence charger to help keep iguanas away from my vegetable garden. Iguanas can cause serious damage to vegetables and plants, so I wanted something practical to help protect all the hard work I've put into my garden. What I like about this charger is its solar-powered design, which eliminates the need to run electrical wiring to the garden. The compact, portable construction makes installation convenient, and the weatherproof design is a great feature for outdoor use. The 24-hour operation is especially useful since I need protection throughout the day and night. It's a convenient option for anyone looking to protect a garden from unwanted visitors. A great concept for garden protection, especially here in South Florida where iguanas can be a constant problem!

won't shock anything
I install this around my chicken coop to help keep animal away . I tried it many different ways and even let it have a full charge and nothing. I had to start using my other electric fence charger.

It's an okay unit.
I like the unit being solar charged. Seems to have a good battery life for those back to back cloudy days.. The discharge is not as "hot" as I thought it would be but enough to keep small predators away. I have found it very hard to ground using the the clamp on style clamp. After a lot of trying to ground, I eventually got a ground rod clamp and copper wire back to the unit grounded it to piece of rebar....

Deer zapper
Love this so much I bought another. I use this fence charger to keep deer out of my flower beds and garden. A single wire has been enough to keep the nosey critters out. Easy installation. Easy to maintain. On and off switch handy. Stays charged. Compact and lightweight. Has survived a year in all weather conditions.

Works great.
We bought this to use for our lyric fencing for goats. It’s stable, easy to use, and have only had to charge it before our first use. The sun is taking care of the rest and we love it.

Keeps the deer at bay.
Purchased the solar fence charger to use in my yard where deer decide to munch on my plants. They would come right up to the patio like they lived there. So, I decided to try the charger. I purchased some nylon fence wire/stakes and proceeded to run my "protection area". Then I charged the unit and put it to work. Within days, I saw the fence line had been mangled, so, I checked our camera system and found out what happened. A "muncher" decided to dine once again and as soon as it hit the wire, BINGO! It scampered out like a jet! I then restrung the line and it has been solid since and the deer don't come within a couple of feet of the line itself. I've checked the line for voltage and the Epoify is continuously provided the advertised electric pulse. It's been up for over six months and the flowers and plants love it.

Works, great!
This works great, mind you I just bought it but man, I had no way of knowing how much juice it was giving off well, I did it the old fashion way, and gave it a touch, shot through my arm like a bullet, man what a snap. That was on the farthest side of my garden fence. I hope it stays working for long time. I kbow you can my a fence tester, I may sometime.
