Exactly what it looks like and does exactly what it says. Worth the price.
It looks like a cube that claims to eliminate odors. It is. The end. Upon unboxing I thought, this is a cube, with a fan in it, 3 intake faces (with carbon filters) and one exhaust. Yup. No magic, no secret sauce, you could probably make this with a cardboard box, a boxcutter, duct tape, a sheet of carbon filter and a small personal fan. But do you want to? For the price, it's worth it to buy this rather than jury-rig your own, and it looks better too. The fact is, carbon filters do absorb odors. So all this does, is pull your odoriferous through the 3 filtered faces, and blows fresh air out the back(exhaust). It works well in my bedroom that's 10' x 20'. and also in my 10' x 10' kitchen when cooking. It's not completely quiet but its not terribly obtrusive, even on high it's just white noise level. there is a space in the housing to insert the included scent gel pack. Spring meadow scent or whatever it's nice and not too powerful. Ive been running it non stop for 10 days and the scent has faded slightly, or I think I'm becoming nose blind to it,..but its a good scent, not off-putting or chemically. The filter change indicator is just a strip with a dye packet that you burst, and gets absorbed by the strip from left to right. I assume its supposed to absorb at a rate to last 3 months, but I burst mine 10 days ago and its at 33% of the strip, which at the current rate would last 1 month? Or maybe the strip slows down as it sucks up the dye? Time will tell. A better bet is to just note the date you put in new filters and change them in 3 months or if you notice the air not so fresh. Speaking of filters, the price on the replacements seem high for (3) 5"x5" pieces of carbon filter, I'm gonna check around for a quality large sheet of carbon filter and just cut it to match the original and see how well it works. It seems like the only issue people have is finding quality filter sheets as good as the original, in a market of cheap thin inferior products. I will be buying a second of these, one to remain in the bedroom and the other to move around, kitchen, laundry room, basement, etc.

Does a very good job, quiet and a nice small size
My daughter's room stinks. I don't mean it has an unpleasant odor, or it has a faint smell. I mean it STINKS. She is a teenager, so I am going to just grin and bear it for the next 18 months until she goes to college. So, what makes her room so offensive? Number one is probably the dog. He is housebroken, just not in DD's room. Yes, he feels that her room is his toilet. To this end we have removed all the carpet and she only has bare concrete floors. The dog doesn't seem to mind. She also has a collection of dishes, bowls, and cups containing various foodstuffs in various stages of decomposition. She plans on majoring in biochemistry in college,so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt here. Then there is her laundry. She is an athletic sprite and she works hard when she works out. Once, she left her clothes in a sealed plastic bag for over a week. We probably could have sold that stank to the government to use in biochemical warfare. Her shoes, socks, shorts, leggings, shirts, jackets, all stink. She keeps them in either the laundry hamper or scattered throughout the floor. Now I know a lot of you are saying "make that kid clean her darn room!". I hear you Mom, yes you did raise me better than that. BUT my parenting style is "choose your battles". She gets good grades, she holds down a job, she is neat and clean when she goes out in public, and she is a good kid. So I'm not fighting the CLEAN YOUR ROOM fight anymore. I got the Hamilton Beach TruAir Room Odor Eliminator instead. This thing is magic. Her room is 12 x 15 and stays closed up pretty much all the time. She keeps this little box plugged in and running 24/7. It is on a nightstand and not really centered in the room, but it doesn't seem to matter. Her room doesn't smell like The Bog of Eternal Stench anymore. It smells... sort of normal. So for that, I give it two thumbs up! We also have a great big Honeywell air purifier that is very large and very round and very loud. If I had to guess it's size I'd say it is as big around as a bar stool and as tall as the average Joe's knee. It cost over $125 and the filters are crazy expensive. This little Hamilton Beach works better, quieter and cheaper. It's a no brainer. And in the Fall of 2013, when my little DD goes off to college, this little gizmo will probably have to go with her.

Definitely works
I bought this because I wanted the living room in my place to smell good. We have two parrots in our house and they tend to have moments when their cages aren't the most attractive thing to be around if you have clear nasal passages (we clean them multiple times a week. This is just due to them doing their natural thing). Unfortunately, this unit ended up being really small, and while it did do a great job for its size it wasn't really built to handle a whole living room. So, this got moved to the roommate's room where he smokes cigarettes and it does an AWESOME job with that smell in a smaller space. After seeing how well this unit worked we ended up getting the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier for the living room and it too works extremely well. I would recommend either of these products, but for a room that is larger than 10x10 I would recommend the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier. Now, many people complain that they feel ripped off by the fact that this takes 3 filters to run. Yeah, it's kind of expensive.. but if you are going to purchase something that cleans the air you're going to need some form of filter, and these only need to be replaced every 3-4 months if you leave it on every minute of the day. I spend more than $16 every 3-4 months on so much useless junk that it seems a bit ridiculous to complain about that sum when it ends up averaging a roughly $5/month investment to keep your place smelling fresh. Realistically, that's less than a glad plugin will run you for a full month of utilization and the hamilton beach odor dealio actually filters the air and doesn't just cover up the smells. In the end, it's up to you. If you're looking for a solution to a smell issue that has to do with smoke, animals, etc. then this is a great solution for a small room - and the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier is a great solution for a larger room. If you never want to have to replace any filters or anything like that then you are probably going to have to spend a bit more up front - I think the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier does have some reusable filters, but they have to be purchased separately. I have been using this product for 4 months straight at its maximum output without ever turning it off and have not had a single problem. I have now replaced the filters twice and don't really mind the expense because it works well.

What a difference! Great Value for the money
We have been using this TrueAir Room Odor Eliminator in our basement for nearly a week now and it has done a great job. The unit is designed for a 10 x 10 room but our basement is much bigger than that and is still making a huge difference in the air quality in the basement as well as eliminating the odor coming up the stairs. We have our cat's litter box down in our unfinished basement and even though we clean them frequently it still smelled musty and dusty down there. The set up was easy. Just open the bottom and remove the plastic covering from the filters. The filters are a good size and cover the entire three sides of the unit. Sucking air in from front and sides and discharging it out the back. This unit plugs in and has a high and low setting. We used the high setting which was whisper quiet and the low setting was not even audible. For the low noise it runs a considerable amount of air through the unit. The unit comes with a scent packet which you can use or not use. It says it is a green meadow scent. at first when I saw that stamped on the box I thought it was right in the filter but it's actually a seperate little thing that fits in the bottom and you can use it or not. It has an indicator to show you when to change your filter (in one or two months) I will probably check the filters after a month and see how they look. The filters are black with a piece of fabric on one side. The black side allows a lot of air to flow through but the fabric is a fine weave that will trap dust particles. Not as good as a hepa filter but better than not having anything. I think it's going to cut down on the dust in the basement if I change the filter frequently. I am really happy with this unit and might buy another for our laundry room which at times has odors from the washing machine. Made in China

Does an okay job - not a miracle worker
We use this in my mother's guest bedroom. The previous tenant smoked heavily in that room and the smell was intense despite new carpet and paint. It would cause significant throat and nose irritation when she first moved in, so I picked this up for her to see if it could help. We've been running this device in the room for a few months, paired with the special Febreze tobacco filters, and there's definitely been major improvement, but it's not entirely gone. We run it 24/7 and change the filters on the recommended schedule. There is definitely still residual smell - I'd say about 80% of it is out. The room probably needs some high quality primer and new paint on the walls and ceilings to really get rid of the smell problem, but this was an acceptable low-cost option. People can now sleep in there without problems, and the smell is almost unnoticeable, so I consider it a success even though I wish it was more effective. A nice side benefit is it acts as a white noise machine, too. Makes sleeping a little easier.

Excellent, almost worth six stars!
Update 1/14/2018. This has been running for nearly 4.5 years now. Still running fine. That alone is extraordinary these days! Our newest cat litter box has a flat top with a vent, so I put this right on top of the litter box after adding 1/4" thick felt pads to dampen vibration. Here, the three filters collect a LOT of litter dust, and I have to beat them on the back fence about once a month. Thank goodness, there is now a low cost alternative filter replacement at Amazon. Alternative to the expensive scent block: folded dryer sheet with a few drops of essential oil. I bought the $18 plug mount smaller unit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H0SDD4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and was duly impressed. However, it is for the utility room where the cat's litter box is, and there is not an accessible outlet, so it had to be plugged into an extension cord where it was a little awkward to keep standing up. It worked well, though, so I moved it to a small bathroom and bought this, because it has feet--four of them. This unit is perfect for our little utility room. It sits on top of the dryer just a few feet from the covered litter box. It uses the same activated charcoal filters as the small plug mount unit...except it uses THREE of them, so it is very effective, and the three filters should last quite a while. Air intakes, and filters of course, are on the front and both sides. "Clean" air is blown out the back. The bottom removes easily to replace the filters, and there is also a place for one or two of the scent packs. This unit also has low and high speed fan settings. The plug mount is on/off only. Bottom line, the plug mount unit is perfect for bathrooms or kitchens or any place you can plug it in. If you have a flat place to stand the filter on, though, this unit is far superior, and I really recommend it for the room with your kitty litterbox!

LOVE!!!!! AWESOME for Smokers!
I bought one of these and 2 of the wall plug in models for my very larger living room <20x35 sq. ft.>. I got the 2 wall models the day before this tabletop model so I waited for this to get here before I plugged in the other 2. This tabletop model is actually lighter then the wall plug in models, in my opinion. Anyway, it comes with directions on how to get it ready to turn on. It is very easy to set up - all you need to do is un-do the bottom, take out the 3 filters, take the plastic wrap off of them and put them back in, put in the scent pack <IF you want but it's optional> then squish the foil pack that tells you when to replace the filters. It's really very simple. Turn it on either low or high - your preference and smell <or not!> I am a smoker <yeah I know> so I was looking for something to help get rid of the cigarette smell. I am pretty smart so I know that the smell of cigarettes/cigars will not go away 100% <unless you quit!> but I was hoping for a big improvement. I turned it on high since my living room is big, and I plugged in the 2 wall units at the same time. Within maybe 4 hours - the smell had almost disappeared! At first, the smell of the scent pack was what I smelled, which is a pleasant "floral" scent <no it isn't terrible>, but that went away pretty quick and I haven't smelled it since I turned them all on a week ago. My husband <who does not smoke> came home from work about 7 hours after I turned them all on and he asked me when I cleaned the house - he could NOT smell cigarettes or any odors. THAT MADE ME SO HAPPY!!! None of these units make much noise...mine has remained on high the entire week I've had it and it doesn't interfere with the TV or Computer when they're on. It doesn't bother me when I'm on the phone. It is situated 2 feet from me on a coffee table. So that is a huge plus! I've had towers and other units that have made a lot of noise and was very irritating. I've also owned Oreck machines and it broke down after only a couple of months and I paid a TON of money for it. If you don't want to spend a lot of money - these are definitely a great product. Just know it will not clean a big space, so if you have a large area -you might consider buying 2 of these or some wall plug ins. We love them and would purchase more soon.

Expensive but worth it to me...........
I researched this product (all purifiers as a first time buyer of one) extensively before purchase and as a smoker which was my main motive and want of a purifier. Firstly as many others would and have recommended if a smoker, the smoker's filters make a huge difference (which I also ordered). When I received the Trueair, I ran it the majority of the time, I woke one morning and it simply didn't turn on at all...it was dead within 2 weeks time. I knew it wasn't my imagination that it was getting quieter and running much weaker for several days leading up to it dying out on me. I contacted customer service and they IMMEDIATELY reshipped a new Trueair to me (I was given the option of a full refund as well) but after so much research, I wanted to believe I simply received a malfunctioning product. (Simple instructions were sent to ship the faulty one back within 30 days and a promise of a return of shipping costs as well.) So take 2...I received the new Trueair within an impressive 48 hours and decided to utilize the original filters it comes with and did put the scent pack in this time as well. (I had noted others saying it wasn't a pleasant odor and being quite sensitive I opted against it the first time.) The previous product was definitely faulty from day one, the one I have now is very powerful and it runs 24/7, it does quite a decent job with the regular filters and I actually wish the scent pack was much stronger and lasted longer as I find it really quite pleasant. After 5 days with the regular filters, I switched back to the smoker's ones and did notice a definite decrease of cigarette smoke and odor. I really love the white noise it offers too, on low it can barely be heard and on high it sounds like a medium level fan but if I'm sitting directly beside it on the phone, it's certainly not too loud by any means...it's perfectly fine plus as said, I like the white noise of it. I could use maybe one more for the space I have it in (approximately a 300 square foot space) but it is a very powerful little machine and really does very well at purifying the air...I'm impressed! I am also extremely impressed with how the company handled the return and refund of shipping costs, all as promised and very prompt in all dealings. My only complaint overall is the cost. I'm in Canada (Amazon.ca doesn't carry it or the filters) so after conversions with the Truair and filters and shipping, this was a $150 expense so just be aware of this if outside of the U.S. and the filters will be hard to come by so do anticipate that you will need to order more filters only here. Nonetheless I plan to buy another for my current space and will definitely be buying one for my bedroom as well (a non-smoking zone with the door always closed but I love the fresh air feel and sound). So with 2 more, having 3 I wish the upkeep of filters was a bit easier and more affordable but it is actually worth it to me and the filters in my opinion, do actually last longer than stated. I would highly recommend this purchase (to my surprise and my only review of a product ever), do be realistic in the space you place it in and I feel very much at ease "should" anything go wrong in the future, I know now the warranty will absolutely be honoured too which is rare these days.
