Groove Sharpener
Great product. Works magic on old wedges.

Works well
I have some old clubs that I wanted to sharpen the groove on since it’s been a really really long time since that happened. This tool was able to clean the grooves and get years worth of stubborn dirt out of the grooves. The tool seemed pretty sharp and the handle made it easy to work with. Good product overall.

Good buy
Works pretty well. Does cut into the metal a little.

Nice for cleaning and sharpening
I'm mainly using this to do a full groove clean before any competitive round.I did try on an old wedge to see how it would sharpen. Found the right edge that fit the grooves well. I put down a piece of paper and there were some metal filings on it. To the feel it looks like it helped, and I did bring it out to test and seems like I'm getting more spin on the ball.Nice to have to work on older clubs that you're not getting enough spin on.

Getting my groove back, baby!
I am a pretty typical golfer who is usually happy to break 100. I don't get much spin on my wedges, so I rarely stop balls very neatly on the green. But I also haven't updated my wedges in a long time, and I have never tried to restore the grooves, so the years of abuse on the club faces have probably made any chance of getting spin pretty much impossible.I ordered this tool to see if I can re-cut the grooves back into my wedges, and get some spin when shooting for the green. The device comes packaged in a clear plastic tube with some very basic instructions. The device has four tips...two of each type (a wider V, and a finer V.)Using the tool is simple. Hold the desired tip against a groove in the face of your club, and drag the tool slowly with even pressure down the length of each groove. The carbide tip is strong and sharp and definitely cuts into the steel face of my wedges. I can see small bits of metal being removed, and I can absolutely feel the difference in the face of my clubs after using this. (Having done only half of the grooves on one club face, it was night and day!) I have no doubt this will improve the friction between the club face and the ball. The only word of caution I would offer is that this tool may leave burrs on the edges of the grooves it cuts into your club face (it feels pretty rough after re-cutting the grooves) so it will may scuff or otherwise damage the cover of your ball. I suspect it will give more spin, but may wear out balls more quickly, etc.I am eager to see what my newly re-grooved wedges will do when I start playing again next spring.

Mixed Results
Did a great job of cleaning the grooves but did not see any metal filings which expected. Lent to a friend and he had the same result. Fortunately, it was not too expensive and the larger handle is nice.

Makes a difference, but requires patience
I'm sorry I didn't include a photo with this review; it's not easy to see in a photo the difference that this tool makes. This is a simple tool that essentially corrects worn edges of the V-shaped grooves in an iron face buy cutting them deeper, thus cutting away the worn edge and exposing a new, sharp edge. Like sharpening a knife, this is a destructive process (it's removing metal from the club), but it would take many, many uses before too much metal had been cut away. By the time that happens, you'll have arms like Popeye from all the time you've spent pulling or pushing the tool. The grooves are what "grab" your ball and give it backspin so in theory <<sharper grooves = more backspin>>The tool itself is easy to use. I found that both pulling and pushing the tool worked effectively and improved the edge on my old, worn set of irons.SAFETY: This tool is SHARP! Don't just set your club on your thigh and start reefing away on the cutter; one slip and you'll be heading in for stitches. Find something the club can be rested on or secured in, and then use the tool in a way that when (not if) it slips, you won't hurt yourself.I spent 15-20 minutes working the grooves on my 9-iron with this tool. Running my thumb over them, I can feel a difference in how sharp the groove edges are. When I have time, I'll work through the rest of my irons with these. Compared against a brand new club, my sharpened 9-iron is nowhere near new. But it's still better than it was.

who knew something like this existed!
I've never heard of a groove sharpener and was excited to try this out on some old clubs. Boy does this work great to clean the grooves out and provide that grip you need for good spin on the ball. It's easy to use, comfortable in hand, and works effortlessly. My only complaint is that it leaves a bit of a rough edge on the club face at the grooves, so I lightly sanded down to avoid scraping my hands or leaving scrapes on my balls. Minor issue. I definitely recommend these to bring back life to old clubs!
