Shoyeido - Square Charcoal (Miyako Sumi) - 48 Piece Box

No sparking or sputtering as with 'quick light' charcoal disks that use gunpowder to accelerate the lighting process. Very clean burn with a faint citrus scent. I use these with Orthodox Christian incense 'pellets'. To light, use small (think cosmetic) tweezers to hold the charcoal bricks over a flame (I use a candle) Allow 30 sec to a minute, moving the edges of one side (which will become the top) over the flame until the edges are starting to turn white, then place in your censer. Allow top to turn completely white before placing first pellet(s). I sometimes will use two incense pellets at a time, and by replacing them every 5 minutes or so, I can use a total of up to five or seven. Each charcoal brick lasts for about 15-20 usable minutes. A part of my normal routine. So glad I found these. The larger, square ones are excellent as well, but these are more economical.

I have nothing bad to say about this charcoal. The incense charcoal I was using before was Three Kings, which I didn't like. This one however is easy to light and does last 20-30 minutes. If you keep sprinkling small amounts of incense resin or herb on it, it will continue to burn. Clean burning with no smoky or charcoal smell, and it burned all the way down with no waste. Pleasantly surprising, considering the small size. Will buy again.

Very nice charcoal once you know how to use it! i got very excited and clouded the entire room with resin smoke when they arrived. The coals are tiny, and are alot harder to light, but they beat the self lighting ones by a long shot. Having a torch and a pair of chopsticks on hand will make it much easier to thoroughly burn and flip the coals. If you dont have a torch, you can also hold them over a candle flame for a minute or two. when it catches, start blowing on them (LIGHTLY) until the whole coal is glowing and covered in white ash. you will need to do alot of blowing! The process is longer, ((and there is a little bit of a learning curve)) but the coals burn much cleaner, and do not leave a smell like the self lighting ones.

Please do yourself a favor, do not buy the self lighting charcoal that others sell if you are going to burn loose incense, plant powders and resins. These are the highest quality, have no fragrance and not made with sulfur, saltpeter or any other chemical additives like the self lighting ones. The few extra seconds that these take to light is worth having a scent-free clean and chemical free burn. These small rectangles burn far longer than the charcoal three times it's size that have been chemically treated. Will never buy another type again now I've used these for my precious incense. I'm ordering another box because I have a feeling I'll be burning incense a lot more now that I do not at any point smell charcoal in my home. HIGH QUALITY. The best!

Before I got this I was using self-lighting charcoal for my incense. I started having problems with it though because the self-lighting disks spark when lighting and occasionally chips of red hot charcoal would fly onto my desk. Recently, a piece flew off onto my rug and burned a hole in it. I decided it was time to try these little bricks instead. Turns out, these light just as fast as the self-lighting ones and work just as well. All you have to do is hold the brick with some tongs over a tealight, flipping it over until all sides are glowing. These are also sized much better for personal use since I used to have to break the larger charcoal disks in half. This is my go to charcoal for now on.

I have to be honest, big learning curve for me! I'm used to the self lighting charcoal and not having to place charcoal on my stoves electric burner to ignite. It does take quite a bit to ignite and burnt myself doing so. These are really small and are great for small pieces of resin but, it doesn't really burn evenly. So far, I have yet to have a single charcoal burn completely and have always had at least have a coal left, fun stuff trying to finish - I think part of the reason is that each piece is packed super tight and not loosely like self activating charcoal. If you have the patience to light these little buggers than it's totally for you but, if you like the ease and lack of blisters from burning yourself then go with the self igniting.

I am very happy with this charcoal. These charcoals are half size and a perfect for just burning a small amount of incense. The coals burn for more than half an hour and burn clean with very little to no smoke. I hold these charcoals with tongs over a candle flame and then blow on the coal to get it going. I would definitely buy again.

I never used regular charcoal before. So many people complained about the length of time that you had to wait for natural charcoal to light that it put me off in wanting to try it. But after reading about the possible ill effects of quick-lite types of charcoal I decided to give these a try. Now I am sorry that I waited so long! I love these!!! They light quickly and within one minute they are ready to go! I had grown so used to the smell of charcoal being like a backyard bar-be-cue in my house when burning resin so I was pleasantly surprised that there is really no smell that emits from these! The quick-lites that I have will be used in the yard with mosquito repelling incense and then I will never buy them again! And the size of these are perfect for my little brass burner!! Really happy that I finally tried these! I will no longer use anything else!

Superior quality incense charcoal. Very low odour once alight. Burns wonderfully slowly.

めったに書かないので不慣れですが 良い製品だと思ったので。 ・パッケージ：抑え気味の色合いで、品の良いデザインです。 紙質も作りも丁寧で、開け閉めもやりやすく、炭を取り出すのも良く考えてあります。 （キャラメルの箱のような感じ） ・炭：サイズW25×D11×H8ぐらい。一個づつ最初から切れています。 成形が丁寧で余計なバリとか粉は一切入っていないので、綺麗です。 手に炭がつかないので、使いやすいことこの上なし。 炭質が個別にも全体でも均一で、驚きました。 火の付きも良いです。角に火を着けたら最後まで素直に燃え尽きてくれます。 火力も本当に適切で、個人が部屋で使うのに絶妙です。 灰の色も松栄堂さんのみやこ灰と似た感じなので、後も楽です。 なんと、無臭です。あえて言えば、良い炭が燃えた時のような雰囲気的な薫り？はあります。 驚くほど安定して燃えてくれるので、火加減の調整がとってもやりやすいです。 ・日常の部屋での使い方だと、大満足です。リピート確定です。 松栄堂さん、ありがとうございます。

まだ３回の使用ですが、３回とも説明どおり一角だけに着火して灰に置くと火が消えました。 ほぼ一面(狭い面で大丈夫)にしっかり着火させると、きれいに最後まで燃えます。

着け方が悪いのかなかなか火がつかないです。時間は30分ぐらいかな
