It was late last year when I read this book by TEDDIE DAHLIN, who I had heard of previously through one time Sex Pistols tour bus driver Barbara Harwood, and one book about the Sex Pistols Norwegian tour of 1977. The reason being that Teddie was translator for the band in Trondheim, for the show at the Samfundet Club, on 21st July 1977 - a show finally issued on cd by Virgin Records in 1992, from a crude Videotape audio master of the show, and now available on the NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS super delux box set on UMG.Teddie had written a book on her few days spent with the band and one SID VICIOUS, with whom she fell in love with and had a 3 day romance. The book, titled A VICIOUS LOVE STORY, was a hit with fans of the Pistols and Sid right away, Many people not knowing of Teddie or her story, It was quite a revelation.The basic premise is this: a promoter friend of Teddie's brings the Sex Pistols to Norway, at the time when they are trying to escape the media circus in the UK, and actually play some concerts to stop the boredom of being banned everywhere. The band needs a translator, and 16 year old fluent English speaker Teddie agrees to do it.The problem being, she is neither a fan of the Sex Pistols or their music, and was given a photograph of the 1976 line up of the band - with Glen instead of Sid - so the guy she first meets slumped asleep in a chair she mistook for a roadie.....this turns out to be Sid Vicious, and Teddie would now begin to fall in love him.The book has little interjections from people around Sid or the band (Steve 'Roadent' Connolly, Viv Albertine, Eileen Polk, Peter 'Kodick' Gravelle), and some I find more believable than others - but that makes the book more enjoyable, Instead of it just being one persons take on Sid and his ways, you get many insights and can make up your own mind which you want to take as fact.The writing style here isnt all fluffy and Dewey eyed nostalgia. This is Teddie recalling things how they happened, and it really makes for an impressive read. The humour of the Sex Pistols' members often gets lost in books, but here it is in abundance, The reader gets to feel as if they know the band members and crew at that moment in time, and that is one of the most precious things a true fan can feel, especially with Sid no longer here. The Sid depicted is NOT the drug addled, moronic, bleeding idiot of the 1978 USA tour, but the Sid Vicious who doesnt want to be a junkie, who wants to play Bass, have fun and begins to fall in love with Teddie with ease. What a different story it all could have been if Teddie had made it to England, as was Sid's wishes..........Luckily, Teddie has kept in all the humour, all the moving stuff, but not included any of the dirty, selacious Sexual stuff - if you want thay kind of thing, buy 50 Shades of Gray. If you want the REAL Sid Vicious, then this is for you.This new edition is Expanded, to include a few bits and pieces on the events of October 1978 and February 1979, from the mouths of Eileen Polk, Neon Leon Webster, and Kenny 'Stinker' Gordon, all of whom were there when Teddie was mainly out of the picture. This is a brilliant addition, as there is no author here telling you what they think is fact when they were not around to see it, but people who WERE there telling it like it was, while Teddie adds her point of view from her feelings at the time. This has boosted the book from a love story to a Punk Rock memoir and real credit to the memory of the man who glares out at you from the mainly unpublished (until the 1st edition) photgraphs - of which more have been added and better set out than in the original edition.This book is great, and with the new additions has got even better. Essential for anyone who calls themselves a true Sid Vicious fan. and if you needed another reason to buy it, I myself have part of my Review of the first edition in Punk Globe Magazine used on the back cover - another sign of Quality.

Im an old Pistols fan , ive heard most storys about Sid , all the rubbish the music papers said he done. This book is a great relaxing way to get an insight into a couple of days and nights in the company of Sid and Teddie. The book is obviously sad, but it is also funny at the same time . Teddie tells her story as perfectly as she could , peicing together the time she spent with Sid from the meeting to the departure...every inch and detail covered in between. Ive got to thank Teddie personaly for this book as it is special for one reason only Teddie knows. If you are a Pistols fan you'll enjoy this book ..buy it you wont be disapointed.,

You would think that everything that could be written has been written about the Pistols and their singularly important role in shaping rock music. But this book is very different, and refreshingly so.Teddie Dahlin was born in Norway, and moved to Yorkshire when she was very young. She lived there for ten years before returning o Norway in 1975, at the age of fourteen. Because of her command of English she was asked to act as interpreter for the Norwegian leg of the 1977 Sex Pistols Scandinavian Tour. She was 16 years old, met the band, fell in love with Sid Vicious and spent a few hectic days with him.She has written her account of those days in the book “A Vicious Love Story: Remembering the Real Sid Vicious”. This is unlike any other book on the Pistols, in that it provides a first-hand inside account of what it was like to be around “four young men at the eye of an international media storm”. Teddie uses her own voice, supported by the voices of others who worked with and new Sid and the Pistols at the time, to relate exactly what those heady days of punk were like. I found it totally compelling reading. I read the whole book in two days, on two long train journeys (to see Kate Bush in London :) ). Teddie's authentic first person writing works well; as the story unfolds it draws the reader in, giving unique insights into some of the dynamics around the Pistols.Set to a soundtrack of ABBA (the Pistols were apparently big fans) and detailing the manic, crazy, madness that surrounded the Sex Pistols at the time, this makes for a compelling, honest, touching and moving account of a band, a love story, and four young men who changed everything. As a lifelong Pistols fan, who saw them perform a few weeks after the events in the book, it took me back to days of excitement, when music was moving so fast. I would recommend the book to any fan of the Sex Pistols. The approach is different, which gives it an honesty and charm unlike any other books on the band.

If you love Sid Vicious, this book will only make you love him more. Such a lovely book and I love the way she portrayed him. A love story I will never forget.
