Great security camera and excellent easy to use software.
These are great little cameras and the software app is very good. Looks more like and indoor cam but works great outside even at night. The starlight option makes video at dusk very clear. The IR night vision works well too. I added extra IR lights to give clearer night time video because everything bad happens at night. I tried another TAPO camera, the C520 and I like this better. The C520 has a patrol mode and can pan and zoom and follow people if you want that but the picture on this at night is slightly better. It is pretty wide angle too and setup and connected easily. Interesting, when I bought a second C121 camera to replace the C520, it had a slighly hazy image. I tried to reach out to support to see if there is an easy way to clean or refocus it, but that was seeming like a waste of time, so I just returned it. Interesting that the replacement I just got didn't have any plastic film over the lense like the other 2. So maybe it was a return too but it works fine so I don't care. I hope they don't sell my return to someone else, it is almost OK, but in comparison to my other 2, the picture is hazy. These are smaller than I expected (which doesn't really matter I guess) and the magnetic mount and mounting arm rotates in all directions making it easy to position. You can put a screw through the mount too so it can't just be knocked down by someone, but they could rip it down easy enough if they can reach it. These look a little delicate, so I mounted it under the eave to keep it out of the rain and snow. The Tapo-TP-Link software is better than some chinese ones I tried. I had weird glitchy issues with a couple other brands, like the dates not matching up, or going off line and needing to be reset. This just works well. You can zoom in on videos which is nice. It does not have 2X or 4X speed like my other ones did which was helpful when scrolling through a bunch of clips looking for something, but that is the only feature I miss. It does not record 24x7 to the card, but you don't want to have to replay that much anyway when looking for something. The motion video indicates whether it is a car, person, pet or general motion and you can set the level of sensitivity to get more or less recordings. I turn off notifications and just use these as security cameras to look back through if something happens. This can take a big microSD card so you have lots of days saved, more that I would ever need I think. I am using a 64 and 128gb card but it takes even bigger ones. Price was great too, especially on sale. So far I am very happy with it. I will post a followup if anything changes in the next several months.

Perfect indoor/outdoor camera that does it all
What a wonderfully executed product. For me the ability to create a local camera account on the device so I can use it with Blue Iris as well as the Tapo app are key. Everything about it is great, long wifi range, nice long cable and waterproof connection. Love it. Easy to set up, easy to use, Night vision is good but isn't even needed unless in total darkness. In fact the image quality is much better just leaving night boost off. Compatible with everything. Can't go wrong with this.

Great Security Camera at a great price!
Great security camera with very easy setup and awesome picture. The blue part is that it works with my already installed ubiquiti protect system. The price point was so much then paying over $100 for the other brand! It has a pinch zoom feature and like I already said it works with my NVR! I was skeptical but I was proven wrong and love this camera especially at its price point! Highly recommend!

Great camera, easy to set up and use - the best!
This camera is great. Unbelievably good clear picture and so, so easy to set up. I'm a little on the old side and although I do better with tech than many others my age (I bought the first home pc in the early '80s and worked with dinosaur computers in the Navy) some things are getting a bit difficult for me, the more time that passes. But this camera is a no-brainer. So, so easy to set up. Buy it! You won't regret it. I wish I had bought 2 of them when the price was still $24.95. They're $10 more now but still worth it, imo. I think I'm going to get one of the cheaper ones at $15, it should be good enough for a simple job. But I loooove this camera.

Excellent High Performance Budget Friendly Option
So far, these cameras work great. Set up is quick and easy especially if you have TP-Link WiFi routers which I have a Mesh 7 system. Resolution is great and better than what I had previously used so that is a plus. During the night, I don't need to use the spotlight or IR lights to illuminate as the ambient light outside is plenty to illuminate the area and provide a clear image. The cameras are mounted inside pointing outward through windows and glare during the daytime is minimal. Field of view is very wide and provides a substantial wide-range for viewing. They all have MicroSD cards installed (make sure you get ones that are compatible) for recording and do a great job recording as well. Connectivity/compatibility was a key factor for my purchase. Since I just recently upgraded my network to a WiFi 7 mesh system, I had difficulty keeping some devices connected, especially my Yi cameras. I had my Yi cameras for 3-5 years and they worked okay until I changed my network system. All of the downfalls my Yi cameras experienced, these cameras overcame for a few dollars more, not to mention the Yi app now choses to display ads prior to you viewing which is a huge negative for me. Resolution, connectivity, compatibility and app performance was an exceptional upgrade for me. I would currently rate this at 4.5 stars as I'm having some issues getting the motion settings right. The issue I'm having is it will activate for headlights of a vehicle in an area that is not even set to activate. This may take some tweaking on my part adjusting the sensitivity or maybe the zone for motion which I will try to adjust, otherwise I would give this product a 5-star rating. It's also nice that it is Alexa compatible as well as you can set it for voice notification just like the Ring system which I also have, so that is a plus. This is a very price friendly camera for home security and does a great job at a low-cost option and for now and works very well.

Tips/Advice from my Positive Experience with Tapo Cameras!
I’m a huge fan of Tapo cameras and now have 7 C-120/121, 3 C211 and 1 C216. I’ve been wanting to try out Eufy, Kasa, Reolink but kept adding more Tapo based on my positive experiences. Plus, by keeping to one brand it’s easier maintaining them all in a single app. At some point I may consider PoE but these Wifi cameras have performed flawlessly with my fiber internet connection. So based on my 2+ month experience with Tapo cameras, here are my tips/suggestions: Exterior camera color: I realize that white is the most popular color and that’s what I bought initially but the problem with white is that it sticks out. Whether tabletop or wall/ceiling mounted a white camera is more easily noticed than a black one. Initially that would not be a concern for most people because they are looking primarily at functionality and white happens to look nice. However, once you get past the surveillance aspect and have visitors who notice the cameras and may feel uncomfortable that’s when you begin to think about ideal placement. And let’s be perfectly clear: most folks have no interest in clandestine recordings. Our cameras are are for nighttime security and for when there’s no one present. While at home we keep them in privacy mode. So where there’s a choice, seriously consider black cameras since they are easier to work with and offer more discreet placement options around decorations/plants etc. Invisible Nighttime IR: One of the best features of the C120 / C121 camera is the option to choose a night vision setting that completely eliminates the red dots or any other light that gives away the camera location at night. I believe there is only one other Tapo camera that features this option so if that’s important to you and especially if you are using it in a nursery this is the camera to get. To change the default night vision setting to invisible IR navigate to Video & Display under Device Settings and select Night Vision. Ensure Night Boost is selected and Click on Viewing Distance. There you will see two options: Near View and Far View. The default setting is Far View which shows the red dots at night. Instead, select Near View and the camera will switch to invisible infrared while still preserving excellent black/white night vision resolution. Notification Speed/Accuracy: Of the Tapo cameras I used I found that C120 / C121 performed the best. What amazed me the most was a there was a small sliver at the end of the driveway that I selected in the camera's detection zone and it sensed motion from nearly 50 feet away in that zone. Quite impressive! Also, notifications are sent almost instantaneously to my phone, which is quite remarkable, especially on the C120/121. PTZ (panning/tilt/zoom): After initially acquiring several TC121 cameras I decided to try out the PTZ camera and ordered a C211 half expecting to return it. To my amazement the image quality both during the day and night was very good, especially at night. In some ways the nighttime resolution was better on this camera (and C216 which I purchased most recently but in retrospect should have gotten its black brethren, the C217…). The C211 offered great resolution for near and far and the C216 was even better for near but not so much for distance at night. I have the C216 in a small room and was blown away by how vibrant and clean the image looks at night. Initially I thought I would be utilizing the PTZ feature to its full extent but eventually found that I preferred one fixed setting as opposed to continually panning around or tracking a subject. Unless you’re using it to track a pet it can be unnerving if someone were to see that the camera is fixated on their every move. If it wasn’t for the excellent night vision image quality, I would have returned the C211 and C216 and acquired another C121. The C121 image quality is excellent during the day with nicely saturated colors and quite good at night inside the home. I have a couple of C120/121 mounted outside, and they have performed flawlessly including one positioned inside a window looking out. It continues to amaze me how well it can detect motion of people / cars from outside the window and provide near-instant notifications to my phone. And the image quality is excellent, even better than a so-called window camera I bought from another manufacturer and later returned. Of course, you would need to switch the camera from Auto to Day mode to cut out glare at night. I believe the starlight sensor in this camera is what allows it to render great resolution with minimal light even under this use-case scenario. Another great feature of this camera is the wide field of view, wider than any of my other Tapo cameras. Once I came to the realization that a fixed view is what I preferred out of my security cameras naturally it naturally made sense to have the widest view available for maximum coverage and that is another area where the C120/121 shines. Adding to that the easy placement options which include a magnetic base and a small profile it becomes a tough camera to beat. No wonder it was awarded the top camera by PC Mag. The only cons are frequent chirping noises and arms that can become loose over time. Other Tapo Cameras: Initially I purchased a C320WS camera but returned it for aesthetic reasons. Later I ordered a C325WB based on impressive reviews of its Color Pro Night vision but shortly after ordering from the Tapo website I decided to forgo but it was too late and I reluctantly paid $20 to ship it back unopened. Lesson learned: order from Amazon unless you are sure of your purchase decision. Incidentally I returned the C325WB because I did not want to spend additional money on accessories such as cable housing to achieve a cleaner looking installation. Also, oddly enough whenever I look at the two raised antenna arms they scream “the point after is good!” I also tried out the C260 4k camera. It offered good resolution at night but I found the colors were muted during the day so back it went. In conclusion and based on 2-3 months of ownership, I am very pleased with my Tapo cameras and hope they continue to function well and last a long time.

RTSP supported dope asf
First of all I used this for streaming a small bird nest on my front porch to friends and family on an http stream over a forwarded port from my network. It supports RTSP so that was possible. Granted VLC couldn't play the stream on mac (unknown issue) and linux (vlc disabled live555). FFMPEG was the solution since the audio codec is PCM ALAW so I had to transcode for both video and audio. The night vision is surprisingly good. The minimum focus distance is around 7-8 inches for good focus and around 5-6 inches for bare minimum visibility. I would prefer that distance were reduced but that's nitpicking for a $25 camera. The magnetic base is phenomenal. The bird nest is in a wreath that hangs from our screen door via a flat metal hanger so the base stuck to that easily. The degrees of freedom for the hinge is so impressive, you can crane and twist and folder the neck in more ways than expected by examining the photos. It was fairly easy to setup and it does exactly what I want, it just records 24/7. My only peeve was in the app I wasn't clear how to fully disable flash and sirens. I don't want to scare Mr. Bird. I think I configured it right as no movement sets off any alarms but the software wasn't super clear on that. Also when I first plugged it in nothing happened. I hit reset and nothing happened. I reinserted the USB-C cable and then it started working. That was a little odd but those types of hiccups are expected, I probably just hadn't inserted it all the way. Actually the cable was hard to insert likely due to the insertion point being IP66 rated so it's hard to get in and thus prevents water and dust from entering.

Great! And not so great.
I have purchased 6 of these cameras, one at a time, this year. There are some things I really, really like and a meaningful downside. Pros: * Great interface on the mobile app * Easy setup, great instructions in the app as it walks you through setup step by step. * Does not require cloud subscription (I added memory cards, easy to add) * Compact and versatile mounting (I use the built-in magnetic base) * Good video quality and decent night vision * Advanced features such as excluding zones from motion, etc. * I consider these a great price and value If it were not for some problems, I would have given these a 5 star based on performance and great price. But.... Cons: * Two of these have already completely died (at different times, no other electronics had problems, so I don't think it is a power surge issue, and even so, the USB adapter would have been the device to get cooked, not the cameras). * Another camera has what appears to be moisture on the lens (even though these are indoor/outdoor cameras). No apparent way to open the case to wipe the lens and it has not evaporated despite several weeks of hot weather. * Support has been polite and thorough but this is very slow process. I'm now eight days in to the warranty process and still have not gotten an RMA or confirmation they are replacing these three cameras. Even though I detailed my very exact troubleshooting (40 years as a computer engineer... I'm used to troubleshooting electronics and networks) I still had to answer a long series of questions. Fair enough, but the time between my responses and theirs should not take multiple days. If only one had issues, I likely would have just written it off as not worth a warranty claim at what is clearly a great price. But 3 out of 6 and such a slow response by support has me concerned about investing any more in this eco-system. We'll see if they replace these or not, and how long that takes and how much hassle it is to return the three devices (which they indicated I would need to do... I wonder if I'll have to pay for that too).
