100% recovery
I bow hunt, and when I first started, I would miss my long shots—50 yards and beyond—and the arrows would end up buried a couple of inches underground. At $12–$15 per arrow, losing them adds up fast. After losing around 20 of them, I finally bought this metal detector. Best decision I made. I found every single arrow I’d lost, plus several my friends had lost too—easily about $300 recovered on the very first day. I’ve had this detector since 2012 and still use it regularly. I’ve never had a situation where I couldn’t recover something—whether it was lost, buried, or dropped. I’ve lent it out to others, and they’ve had the same success. Today, I’m loaning it to someone to help find a lost wedding ring, which inspired me to write this review. It might be old and a little beat up at this point, but it still works like a champ and gets the job done every time.

Did it's job
First let me say I don't profess to know much about metal detecting. I bought this metal detector to find my wedding ring, which flew off my finger the other night while I was playing volleyball in the backyard with the kids (it was a chilly night and the ring was loose on my finger.) After an hour of searching, I figured it was worth it to buy an inexpensive metal detector in hopes of finding my ring. I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no problems finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have several other "hits" that were definitely objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not dirt. The kids can't wait for their turn now that the ring has been found. I think they will get some fun use out of it and they want to dig on our other "hits" from tonight. The pros for this item were the fast shipping, easy to use right out of the box (just had to insert 2 9V batteries), well-written instructions, and it is Made in the USA. It felt sturdy and well-made but it was short in length (it is a Jr. size, after all) - didn't matter for my use but an adult wanting to do some serious detecting would want a longer one. The length feels just right for my children (ages 11, 8 and 5) and it is not too heavy, either. It is very simplistic - two dials (one for power/sensitivity and one for target elimination - like for ruling out iron or other metals if you are getting too much junk in your detecting) and one needle gauge called the "Target Indicator". It made a buzz/beep sound that was easy to hear. One thing - I do not see nor did I read about where you can plug any earphones in - which is a feature other detectors have. If you have a specific need (like finding a lost ring!) or if your children want to try their hand at metal detecting, this seems like a great product.

Very impressed for the price!
Ok, so I bought this for my 8 year old daughter, but I use it more. It is very simple sound based detector, once you get used to the high and low tones I have found about 90% plus accuracy for filtering out pull tabs and trash. My friend bought a $699 detector and each time we have gone out, I have found more than he has. His has a greater depth detection, but he ends up spending more time on deep stuff that ends up being trash. I even set up 3 trails of different coins in the grass and my daughter found all of hers well before the other two people. Recently I bought a more expensive detector Swarm Series MX100 for myself and there are too many random sounds and too many things to look at on the screen, I end up going back to use the Bounty hunter when we are out. I found it too difficult to pinpoint the actual item on the new one , where the bounty hunter tone gets highest when you are directly over the item. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially starters. I have found a sterling silver ring and a gold plated ring as well with this. The only thing you have to adjust in the discriminator dial, once you get used to the sounds you can adjust it while passing over an object to help determine whether you should dig it or not.

This product is unbelievably good
I do not write product reviews that much as most of the time I don't have any thing special to say about them. However this Bounty Hunter metal detector is something I would recommend anyone to have in their home, because without it, I would have lost my wedding ring. The product cost was nearly $50 and I paid like $16 for express delivery. Let me tell the background of what I lost and how I lost it. It will give you an idea how useful this metal detector is. Yesterday we had a picnic organized by my workplace colleges. One of the events was to play volleyball. The Volleyball court was full of grass and the grass was think and about 4 inches high. I played few shots and suddenly realized that my wedding ring was gone. I never asked from my wife how much it cost to her, but I knew that it is an expensive ring made from Platinum, gold and 5 diamonds. Although we had about 20 people who spent reasonable amount of time to search in the ground for it, we failed to locate it. The grass was little bit wet too due to previous days rain. One of the friends suggested about the metal detector. I tried to buy it from several shops, but they did not have in house. I gave up the ring and came home. But I thought that I would buy a metal detector and make a last attempt. I searched amazon for a suitable product. Based on the description and price, I felt that this has to be simple and good enough. Even if it doesn't work, it will be only $50. If I find it , I will get my $3500 (and priceless sentimental value) ring back. I ordered it from amazon to be delivered from express delivery. The order was placed at around 7:30 PM yesterday and the product arrived at my door steps at around noon today. It gave me few hours before sun set to do the search. I noticed that the sky had overcast conditions which means that I am going to have a rain in the week end. Initially it gave me few false alarms for other metal objects like a coin which was hidden under grass. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to search in that area. Then I suddenly heard the beep. I wasn't sure, I moved grass back and forth and then saw my ring. It had been in the volleyball court in my office for nearly 24 hours. Without this metal detector, I wouldn't have located it. It was a great relief for me because I cannot buy back my lost wedding ring. Only that I have to find it. It was possible because amazon delivered the product on time and the product is an excellent product. I would strongly recommend everyone to buy this product. And you Amazon are Amazing!!!.

This metal detector is, well, just ok...
I purchased this metal detector for myself and my BF. We've both never metal detected before as a hobby, but were interested in trying it out. We saw this Bounty Hunter "Gold Digger" model on Amazon for a fair price, and figured why not give it a go! Well, the unit is very user freindly! It's very easy to put together. It should take only about 10 minutes following the directions that come with the item. It simply operates using two 9-volt batteries. If this is a gift, don't forget the batteries...or the whole excitement factor just went out the window, lol. Anyway, we've since taken it out into the wooods a maybe a handful of times so far, and for all intensive purposes..it does an ok job. We found a few coins, some rusty nails and such, and it pretty much does what it was built to do. As we did more research, however, we've since discovered that if this is going to be a new hobby for someone...A LOT of time and energy can be saved by moving up to the next price point ($200 or so). What I mean is some of the units in that higher price point have a little basic monitor on the front that can tell you what it is you've found...before you spend 15-30 minutes DIGGING and...DIGGING, just to come up with nasty rusted out tin can that is useless! Take my word for it, this "Gold Digger" model is...just ok for a beginner. Maybe great for a kid with lots of endless energy to burn digging a hundred holes a day every weekend. But, if it's for you, or an adult friend who is taking up Detectoring as a new and exciting hobby...pop for the higher end unit and you'll (he,she, mom, dad, pal) will have a much better time knowing that you're at least digging or sifting through loose sand for say a valuable coin...instead of some junk that someone should have put in a trash can 50 years ago! Happy relic hunting!!

Lightweight, easy to use, works as advertised, quite addictive!
I purchased this for my 10 year old, treasure seeking son for Christmas. Due to our lack of more than a few inches of snow this year we were able to get it outside the day after Christmas. Easy to use, basic and there is no question when it finds something it likes. It's taken us to a depth of about 8 inches beneath packed soil so far with no trouble. That particular find was a disinigrating metal bucket. None of our finds have been lucrative, but curious nonetheless and it's gotten my son and I out in the cold 3 times in the 5 days he's had it. I MAY be more excited about it than he is. So far we've combed a lake beach under 3 inches of snow using a bread sack closed with a twist tie over the detector, small portions of our yard and the ditch along our street. Even when we just end up finding a rusty nail, hearing that beep and digging our way towards a mystery object is quite fun and a bit addictive. My mind is already searching for other locations to check. As far as comfort and ease of use I'd rate high. Its lightweight and while my son did say his arm began to hurt after awhile, it was just fine for me. The arm brace eliminates wrist strain. The extendable body has quite a range and adjusts well for adults or kids. I typically don't write reviews until I've had something for awhile, but I haven't had this much fun with something I bought online for quite awhile. It may not do anything fancy like decipher between types of metals with precision but, for a 10 year old, I consider it a great buy. When asking my son to stay out a little longer today to hunt for treasure he said, "Mom, you're acting like more of a kid than me." I reminded him there is no age limit on this device!

Glad we bought a metal detector, and glad we bought this one
I have now used this with my son at least a dozen times in our yard and at a park. It works perfectly. We love it. I'm very happy we bought it. Size: My son is 6 years old and small for his age: 41 pounds and 43" tall. He has no trouble holding up the metal detector. Yesterday he walked around the park holding it for well over an hour. I kept asking him if he wanted me to take it and he refused. I think it should have a "brace" that extends past the rear of the handle like adult metal detectors do, but so far it hasn't been an issue at all. Simplicity: it's really simple. Turn it on and it works. So far we have had it turned up on the highest settings every time we have used it, and it has been fine like that. I wish it had a light or something to show that it is turned on, because he sometimes forgets to turn it back on. Our solution there is to leave it turned on while we dig. The battery is still going strong after probably 3 total hours of being turned on. It works: Every time it beeps, we find the metal thing that made it beep. It has found small things, like a penny buried a few inches below the surface of the dirt. It also found some huge metal object that was buried much deeper. We got to see whatever it was but I had to tell my son we couldn't dig a 5-foot-long hole at the park to dig it out. Fun: This is more a psychological statement, but we've had fun every time we've used it, even without finding pirate gold. We have only ever found one coin, a penny, and the rest is nails, random construction bits, etc. I was afraid that if we never found anything valuable my son would lose interest. He hasn't. He is still begging me to take it out at every opportunity.

Durability.
Works well, my son loved playing with it in the yard. It seems to be pretty well constructed so it can hold up to those rough little boys.
