First let me say I don't profess to know much about metal detecting. I bought this metal detector to find my wedding ring, which flew off my finger the other night while I was playing volleyball in the backyard with the kids (it was a chilly night and the ring was loose on my finger.) After an hour of searching, I figured it was worth it to buy an inexpensive metal detector in hopes of finding my ring. I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no problems finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have several other "hits" that were definitely objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not dirt. The kids can't wait for their turn now that the ring has been found. I think they will get some fun use out of it and they want to dig on our other "hits" from tonight. The pros for this item were the fast shipping, easy to use right out of the box (just had to insert 2 9V batteries), well-written instructions, and it is Made in the USA. It felt sturdy and well-made but it was short in length (it is a Jr. size, after all) - didn't matter for my use but an adult wanting to do some serious detecting would want a longer one. The length feels just right for my children (ages 11, 8 and 5) and it is not too heavy, either. It is very simplistic - two dials (one for power/sensitivity and one for target elimination - like for ruling out iron or other metals if you are getting too much junk in your detecting) and one needle gauge called the "Target Indicator". It made a buzz/beep sound that was easy to hear. One thing - I do not see nor did I read about where you can plug any earphones in - which is a feature other detectors have. If you have a specific need (like finding a lost ring!) or if your children want to try their hand at metal detecting, this seems like a great product.

Works better than expected! I ordered this basically to see if it would be worth ordering a more expensive, “better” option in the future, but it far exceeded my expectations! Assembly was simple, it’s very user friendly, and works exactly, if not better, than advertised, and was a great price!

Ok, so I bought this for my 8 year old daughter, but I use it more. It is very simple sound based detector, once you get used to the high and low tones I have found about 90% plus accuracy for filtering out pull tabs and trash. My friend bought a $699 detector and each time we have gone out, I have found more than he has. His has a greater depth detection, but he ends up spending more time on deep stuff that ends up being trash. I even set up 3 trails of different coins in the grass and my daughter found all of hers well before the other two people. Recently I bought a more expensive detector Swarm Series MX100 for myself and there are too many random sounds and too many things to look at on the screen, I end up going back to use the Bounty hunter when we are out. I found it too difficult to pinpoint the actual item on the new one , where the bounty hunter tone gets highest when you are directly over the item. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially starters. I have found a sterling silver ring and a gold plated ring as well with this. The only thing you have to adjust in the discriminator dial, once you get used to the sounds you can adjust it while passing over an object to help determine whether you should dig it or not.

I do not write product reviews that much as most of the time I don't have any thing special to say about them. However this Bounty Hunter metal detector is something I would recommend anyone to have in their home, because without it, I would have lost my wedding ring. The product cost was nearly $50 and I paid like $16 for express delivery. Let me tell the background of what I lost and how I lost it. It will give you an idea how useful this metal detector is. Yesterday we had a picnic organized by my workplace colleges. One of the events was to play volleyball. The Volleyball court was full of grass and the grass was think and about 4 inches high. I played few shots and suddenly realized that my wedding ring was gone. I never asked from my wife how much it cost to her, but I knew that it is an expensive ring made from Platinum,gold and 5 diamonds. Although we had about 20 people who spent reasonable amount of time to search in the ground for it, we failed to locate it. The grass was little bit wet too due to previous days rain.One of the friends suggested about the metal detector. I tried to buy it from several shops, but they did not have in house. I gave up the ring and came home. But I thought that I would buy a metal detector and make a last attempt. I searched amazon for a suitable product. Based on the description and price, I felt that this has to be simple and good enough. Even if it doesn't work, it will be only $50. If I find it , I will get my $3500 (and priceless sentimental value) ring back. I ordered it from amazon to be delivered from express delivery. The order was placed at around 7:30 PM yesterday and the product arrived at my door steps at around noon today. It gave me few hours before sun set to do the search. I noticed that the sky had overcast conditions which means that I am going to have a rain in the week end. Initially it gave me few false alarms for other metal objects like a coin which was hidden under grass. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to search in that area. Then I suddenly heard the beep. I wasn't sure, I moved grass back and forth and then saw my ring. It had been in the volleyball court in my office for nearly 24 hours. Without this metal detector, I wouldn't have located it. It was a great relief for me because I cannot buy back my lost wedding ring. Only that I have to find it. It was possible because amazon delivered the product on time and the product is an excellent product. I would strongly recommend everyone to buy this product. And you Amazon are Amazing!!!.

This was purchased to find TWO gold rings we thought most likely lost in the house or (less likely) in the yard. It was used to search indoor floors and the trash we saved, that we spread outdoors. Before starting the real search, the detector was tested on jewelry on and below rugs, just to know what to expect. Key findings: 1. This metal detector cannot find platinum. 2. If the item is large (like a heavy gold bracelet lying on top of a rug) this detector will find it. 3. If the item is a gold ring lying beneath an area rug, the detector won't find it. 4. Inside a house you get some readings for pipes and things, but you can easily rule those out. 5. Detector will find pipes under cement outside. detector will also detect a dog food can lid on top of ground. Detector WILL NOT detect that same dog food can lid inside an otherwise empty paper bag! In other words, some things need to be completely uncovered to be detected. That makes the detector less useful of course. 6. Detector will find foil in trash and on bottles. 7. Detector will NOT find two gold rings wrapped in a paper towel lying on top of the ground! -fortunately I hand searched the paper towels also, and did not rely solely on detector, so found missing rings by hand search, hurray! Success NOT directly due to detector though. 8. Detector MUCH MORE sensitive to worthless foil than to gold! AFTER I found rings, as test I put the two gold rings on ground and detector only found the rings because I kept sweeping and sweeping, and even then beep was short and weak. Detector finds pipes under cement BETTER (with louder and longer beep)than gold in plain sight. 9. Knob settings on detector worthless. User manual just tells you to do trial and error to learn the sounds, so user manual also useless. I ended up using highest power setting and no trash eliminator setting to be able to find gold. At minimum user manual should say settings most likely to find the most commonly sought metals. Ie, to find silver set knobs this way; to find gold set knobs this way, etc. 10. Product would be better if you could turn knob to the specific metal you are looking for. 11. Suggested use and method to find rings in trash: Find spot outside on flat area where detector finds nothing (makes no sound). Place empty trash bag flat on that ground as ground cover. Spread some trash on top of the flat trash bag in a thin layer. Detector very weak so big piles won't work. go over the thin spread out layer of trash with detector. DONT RELY ON THE DETECTOR - ALSO CHECK EVERY PIECE OF PAPER/trash VISUALLY AND BY FEEL. As you check each piece of trash, throw it away so you don't waste time rechecking it. Keep on rechecking remaining trash with metal detector also, just in case. In our situation, detector found foil on yogurt lid but missed the two gold rings in a small piece of paper towel! 12. Detector requires two ALKALINE ONLY 9 volt batteries. I used Duracell Coppertop 9 volt which are alkaline. 13. Would I buy again? Our various tests on the detector showed the detector very weak on ring-sized amounts of precious metals, and that this detector won't find platinum at all. However, I think I searched my trash more thoroughly, intelligently & organized because I was trying to work with the metal detector, so that was an unintended plus. If I lost something again I'd pull it out and try it again. Not the world's best purchase and not the worst. Overall if I hadn't found the rings, I would have had a bit of piece of mind in knowing I had tried my best in buying and trying the detector, which is probably worth more than the $70 purchase price. Not a hearty thumbs up, but maybe better than nothing, as long as you don't rely solely on the detector.

I bought this for my 10-year-old, and it has been a lot of fun. It was easy to set up, simple for a child to learn, and got him excited about exploring outdoors. The detector is lightweight enough for kids to carry comfortably and keeps them entertained while searching for hidden treasures around the yard and park. It's a great beginner metal detector and makes a fun gift for curious kids who enjoy adventures. Overall, a great purchase and well worth it for the smiles and excitement it has brought. Five stars!

Great gift for my dad who loved metal detecting without paying an arm and a leg

The product itself felt cheap and looked nothing like the photos the quality was far below what I expected for the price. I would have returned it immediately, but the listing advertised "Free 30-day returns," which I assumed meant a standard hassle-free return. Instead, my only options were to pay for return shipping, drive to a Kohl's in another city, or use a poorly-reviewed drop-off location. I would never have purchased this item had the actual return method been disclosed upfront. The product quality alone makes this a poor purchase, but the misleading return experience made it significantly worse.

It is great for young beginner. It works well for finding coins planted around the yard by grandparents. Good introductory metal detector.

Bought this motion detector for my 6 yr old to use on the beach (dry sand). Not been to the beach yet but I have done some tests and it works great. The handle would have been better if rubberised, but I have sorted that by putting some rubber grip on it from an old paint roller. It's lightweight so it's suitable for kids, the handle extends, so is suitable for adults too, will fit in a ruck sack. You will defintely find stuff on the beach with this detector, unlike some of the toy detectors out there. From the tests that I have done, you will find a coin at about 5" maximum, and that is pretty ok.

Simplicity of use and good dectecting depth for a budget detector. The inclusion of headphones in the package is a plus. Shame the 2 x 9Volt batteries are NOT included; but this is stated in the description information. Fun to use.
