Excellence Crème Hair Color, 1 Black, 1 Count

I like this color treatment. I used to use the pro stuff that the salons use. After reading up on all the toxic crud in these coloring agents, this one came up on Environmental Working Group's website as a safer alternative than some of the others. So while not being benign it does use less toxic ingredients. That being said it is easy to use and they give you everything you need including a set of gloves. They give you a ton of conditioner too. The color is good, like any hair color the longer you leave it, the darker it gets. It will quickly lighten up in the following 4-5 days after coloring. Always the balance is trying to get the gray hair to take the color while not letting the rest of your hair go too dark. I prefer to leave it on a shorter amount of time like, apply and then let sit for 15 minutes. I like the shorter time because it won't get too dark and if it leaves some gray I am ok as it makes my hair look more natural with some lighter and darker shades and a little gray. If you leave it in for 45 minutes even with this darkest blond you will look like elvis LOL, literally shoe polish black almost. I am guessing most people will probably go for 20-30minutes. My natural color is light to medium brown. After two weeks with this color my hair is usually light brown with some blond highlights and gray highlights. That is what works for me. More time in direct sun will lighten it pretty fast. If you are trying to stay consistent you will need to apply once a month. I typically let it go to 6 weeks.

I HAVE BEEN DYING MY HAIR FOR DECADES... I am now 76... yes... quite a huge age but my spirit is still young! Over the earlier years... and until a couple of years ago...I had been using Clairol SOY4PlEX that needed to be blended with a separate developer that I needed to measure. I used the Clairol product because that was what all the "professional" hair colorist in a hair salon would use back in the olden days. For whatever reason... this past year plus...I decided to try something new. I have fine & thin hair and was a bit afraid to try a new product. I ordered the "L'oreal Paris Excellence Creme 6A". It was so much easier to mix! But... the big reason that I am writing this review is because of the superior quality of this product. The application is easier... but the result of using this product was SO much better! My hair after application is so soft and smooth! The color is superior too! This L'oreal product has not faded like the Clairol product would over time. It is a huge improvement! L'oreal also includes a great conditioner and gloves and an easy step by step instruction page. A+++

Before and after . I’m so happy with my results ! As you can see my hair had grays mainly in the front . This was my first time using box dye - I normally get it professionally done or my mom has her license so she gets the supplies for me ,however that wasn’t an option at this time so after the reviews I went with dark brown. It came out dark as you can see in the picture but it looks great and vibrant and covered everything perfectly . I am very happy with the results and I received many compliments edit : forgot to say I used two boxes 😬

I’ve colored my hair at home for YEARS, and considering how long I’ve been using this specific hair dye (for the last 10+ years) my review is a little late. BUT I have to say this is one of the few products I continue to come back to. Every time I use it, I’m reminded why it’s become my favorite. The instructions are easy to follow, everything I need is included in the box, and the results always leave me feeling like I just walked out of a salon. After not dying my hair for so long my hair starts to become greasy at the roots even though I wash my hair everyday, but after I use this my hair feels and looks brand new! What I love most is how evenly the color goes on. It completely covers my grays without looking flat or unnatural, and the shade turns out true to what’s shown on the box. My hair looks rich, shiny, and full of dimension instead of looking overprocessed or dull. I also appreciate that the formula feels much gentler than some other permanent dyes I’ve tried. It didn’t leave my scalp feeling irritated, and my hair actually felt soft and healthy after rinsing it out. The conditioner included in the kit is amazing—it left my hair feeling silky, smooth, and much easier to style. I found myself running my fingers through my hair because it felt so soft. Another thing that really impressed me was how well the color lasted. Even after several washes, it stayed vibrant and didn’t fade nearly as quickly as other brands I’ve used. My hair continued to look fresh, glossy, and healthy for weeks. For the price, I honestly don’t think you can beat the quality. It saves me the time and expense of going to a salon while still giving me beautiful, professional-looking results at home. I’ve used L’Oréal Excellence hair color a few times and really like it. It’s easy to apply at home, and the color comes out rich and even. My hair also feels soft afterward and doesn’t feel overly dry. The color lasts pretty well between touch-ups too. Definitely one of my go-to hair dyes

I never expected hair color to be something I get through Amazon, but I got tired of local store shelves not stocking my specific hair color shade during the holidays - and local stocking problems have been getting worse, maybe as more people find out how great this hair color works! During COVID, I exclusively began coloring my hair at home, and I'm still doing that. The money savings are outstanding (I've paid as much as $200 for hair color appt, with tip) so a box that is between $8-14 (goes on sale at times, different stores offer at different prices) saves me a LOT of money. I also like being able to control the timing, as I can do it at night when stores are closed. I find this doesn't drip, so I do sometimes leave the bathroom and wonder around to get things done around the house while its working or sometimes just veg and watch TV. I like the comb applicator a lot, because I feel this helps get it down closer to scalp roots. I have a little ritual for mixing the color - after getting all the color out into the applicator bottle - and I mean ALL the color out, just like your hairstylist does - use a comb or other hard edged something and push every last bit of color out - after that I put the applicator top back on the applicator bottle for shaking. I don't stop with just shaking. Once I think it is mixed, then I open the very top tiny tip cap of the applicator bottle, loosen the applicator top, and I blow into the tip to push the mixed color and applicator product back fully into the applicator bottle. Then I retighten both tops on the applicator bottle, and I shake more. This way if straight color got stuck into the applicator top, it is back into the bottle for complete mixing. I don't know if this matters, but I have consistent color application every time I use this product. Once I'm done shaking, then I put on the comb applicator, the included gloves, and then I start with my hair top center part area and temples, and then scalp hair tips all over, including even the undersides and back, as I often wear my hair in a ponytail. If my hair grows long down to or past my shoulders, then I've been known to use two boxes for coloring, but usually one box is all I need for coloring my hair (I have included a photo so you see length - I colored my hair two nights ago). The instructions are clear. I've been with them through 3 product changes (this recent hyaluronic acid being most recent). BTW, I didn't notice any difference using this new formulation, so if you loved it before, you'll keep loving it. Through the years, I have tried a few other colors in this color range, but I keep coming back to 8.5 because it's the color I naturally had most of my life, though I started getting white hair at either 18 or 20 years old. I am a blue eyed blonde and I get complements on my hair all the time - I laugh and say you can have this color too - it's Loreal 8.5. I’ve been using this one for years and when I try something new I come right back to this one. Easy to apply, doesn’t irritate my skin, coverage and longevity is great and the major plus is that it comes off of my skin easily. I hate how other brands stain your skin so badly and it’s hard to get off. Not a problem with this. I just wish they’d put the after dye shampoo they include in a big bottle. The elvives are nice but not the same thing! After I’m done using the shampoo and conditioner I don’t have to wash my hair for 3+ days! It stays so soft, silky and light, I love it.

Super and unnecessarily expensive with poor results

I ordered 4 boxes & they came late, i was disheartened, however when they came i was very surprised, it covered my copper hair dye and looks and feels great, no runs or mess in the bathroom and i only needed to use 2 boxes this time so coverage is great, i hated the smell while applying, but it soon go's when you wash and the shampoo an conditioner is very refreshing, my hair is glossy and healthy, my new go to hair dye for sure.

I haven’t used the product yet as it didn’t come with any gloves which was frustrating.

Great colour, great grey coverage and very easy to use.
