Lovely Kit For A Budding Geologist!
I picked up this kit to use as a door prize at my local gem and mineral club. I think it's a perfect kit to give to a budding geologist who is exploring a new interest. The tools, as expected at this price point, are Chinese-made, so I can't vouch for the quality of the steel under use. An experienced geologist would not be excited over this kit, but for someone just getting their feet wet it's a great way to start. The bag is sturdy and pretty well made, and the hammer and chisels are solid. The little wooden picks and brushes will be handy, and will let the user know what they like and need in their field kit.Hoping to make a budding scientist happy this Christmas!

Genuinely shocked at all of the things that are included here.
This could be one of the strangest, but best kits that I've purchased from Amazon. This Geology Rock Pick Hammer Kit from LASUK contains so many different tools and toys for amateur rock sleuths, and at $37 (at the time of this review,) would make a great gift for a scout or an explorer friend. The contents were all wrapped in plastic, and then those things were wrapped in plastic, and then ALL of it was wrapped in more plastic, and bound with tape. It looked like a package of illicit goods being smuggled when it arrived. (All of that plastic took me almost 10 minutes to cut away with scissors and a knife.)Once unpackaged, though I was impressed with the assortment of different tools and gadgets that were included. It's as if somebody walked through a hardware store, and a Hobby Lobby and grabbed anything that pertained to rock exploration, and threw it into the cart. There is even a multi segmented shovel with a palm sized scoop, that can fit into your glove box when broken down.Chisels, brushes, gloves, safety goggles, and a rock hammer that doubles as a chipping hammer, are included in the kit. Some of the tools are on the cheap end, but there are so many items in this kit, that for $37, you can't really complain. This is not a professional Geologist's or Earth Scientist's kit.And all of it can be stored in a big 13" x 9" bag (size when folded in half) with a shoulder strap for carrying all ten pounds worth of all of these tools. All in all, for less than $40, you've got a pretty thorough kit for fossil digs or just rock exploring. Five stars from me.

A decent kit with some good tools and some odd ones.
This kit is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the tools are perfect for rock hounds, and some of them are just filler that have no place in the kit.The good stuff: The pack shovel, hammer, safety goggles, gloves, brush, and the chisels all make sense and are decent quality. All of these would be great for digging or chipping out gems from rock formations. Regarding the chisels, there really isn't a need for three different sizes for rockhounding. If I were carving stone, the different sizes would be useful, but for field work, they are just extra weight. One is all you need. The decent, but not needed: The Jeweler's loupe. Its fine, but I'm never going to use it in the field. The filler: The smaller tools except the brush are all filler. They are just clay sculpting tools. I can see including one smaller pick for clearing away mud from a specimen, but work like that is easier to just do at home. The whistle/compass is just silly. These will all get left at home. The last thing to talk about it the carry bag. It is clearly just a random bag that sort of works. Its not a tool bag and there aren't dedicated places for everything. There are some pockets, but they are only useful for the small "filler" items. So all the good tools just end up piled on the bottom of the bag. A basic tool roll would have been a better choice.

Nice Set for Kids - Slivers on Wood Handles
This 17-piece Geology Rock Pick Hammer Kit is EXACTY what my grandson was looking for! He has been all into mining for minerals (AKA shiny rocks) in our backyard when he visits. He was hoping for a pickaxe, but those are traditionally very huge and heavy, way more than a little one needs to dig for diamonds, haha! This kit has a perfect-size pickaxe, one that can be wielded one-handed, along with three chisels, a collapsible shovel, wood excavating kit, safety goggles, whistle compass necklace, jewelers loop, and a pair of gloves, all in a nicely made bag. The chisels and pickaxe are sturdy and made of metal. I expect these to last a long time without breaking! The goggles are flimsy and unable to be used as they don't sit on the face as expected. The wood excavating kit isn't polished wood and has some slivers on it, so be careful with little ones! I'm not sure how this would work for actual tools, but for someone looking at this for fun, this is PERFECT! This kit is a great starter for little ones to start their "mining business" in your backyard!
