The coating on the barrel is nice but I still use protective spray regardless. I wash and dry my hair with leave in conditioner and styling cream, then spray on protective spray and section out hair. It comes with a glove which works well and prevents your hands from gettting burnt when you wrap your hair around the barrel (I leave the last inch or so straight mostly but you can curl the entire length of hair because this glove is heat resistant so I can hold it on the barrel. The length off the barrel is extra long so it’s for any length of hair as mine is shoulder length but it can take long long hair due to length! Now!
