Works great. Allows you to load test the battery, test the starting system, and the charging system. Very easy to use, and gives detailed report. Excellent price and allows me to keep an eye on my Subaru battery (that tends to fail early). Also supports all the current battery types.

This car battery tester comes highly recommended by YouTube's Scotty Kilmer who has 50+ years of experience as a car mechanic. I've watched a lot of his videos and I needed a battery tester because my car's 12V battery is getting old. I can't use just any tester because my Camry Hybrid's 12V battery (not the high-voltage traction battery) is an AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery instead of a conventional lead-acid battery. I checked the Topdon AB101's specs and it can test AGM batteries, it's not overly expensive, and carries Scotty's stamp of approval so I bought it. It arrived in a day or so and I unpacked it. Seems well built. I went to the garage without reading the instructions because I'd already watched Scotty use it. I clipped the tester to the battery (it's in the trunk under a plastic cover) and the tester came to life. (Remember: black to black, red to red.) There are only four pushbuttons on the AB101 tester and the screen's pretty clear, so it's not hard to use. Mostly, you just push the "OK" button and use arrows to select a parameter. I set the tester for AGM batteries, entered 450 CCA (cold cranking amps) as marked on the battery, and ran a test. The tester said the battery had 51% capacity but was a "good battery." The battery's 6 years old but lives in a moderate climate in a garage so that's about the best I could hope for. The battery's getting old but has enough oomph for one more long trip. Thanks to the tester I'm more confident we won't get stranded, so I didn't buy a new battery (they cost more than $200!) but I bought a Noco lithium jump pack for insurance.
