The story is extremely interesting, the protagonist,a street vendor, marries the "wrong" woman because his cousin traps him. However, he still becomes very happy with her. The woman he believed to love marries his old school friend which causes tensions between them. All takes place in a developing Istanbul, where the protagonist and his cousins try pocket some of Istanbul's growth. Furthermore, the story is not told chronically, Pamuk tells the story in a nested way where he jumps back in time, reaches starting point and continues. Very well written, using the perspective of various characters!

Fantastic story. As a person who lived in Istanbul for a long time, I'm quite familiar with all the facts in the book which adds extra value and joy in reading.
