These 13 short tales have been digitally re-mastered for excellent sound quality. This is the best available collection of these classic recordings. Tales of the Frightened: 13 short stories by Michael Avallone read by Boris Karloff. Originally recorded for a radio show, the series was short-lived. Mercury records produced a vinyl LP of the readings in 1963.

Amazing CD
Are You One of the Frightened.........It is amazing. Never thought I'd hear those words again. My sister and I used to listen to the whole series when we were younger, used to scare the hell out of both of use. We were passed around a lot in the family and this was one thing we enjoyed together. She passed several years ago at a early age. There isn't much left of the things we enjoyed together but thank you Amazon you gave me one of them. They are not scary in todays standards but still that voice is amazing. It's is alittle like the twilight zone except for one thing his voice. I remember sitting in the room with the lights down, listening to the stories , really great memories thank you . GREAT CD in all my over 1200 CD's this to me is my favorite . thanks for reading this and to all our vets Welcome Home ...

Great Halloween Treat For The Kiddies!
This album was a family favorite from way back in the early 60's. My sisters and brother and I would stay up late listening to "Tales" to get "Frightened" to death! I even contacted Mr. Karloff's daughter a few years ago to see if she knew if it would ever become available again. At the time she wasn't really sure if or, when it might be. I was delighted to find it here on Amazon and immediately ordered a copy. The memories came flooding back. I can't wait to share it with them again soon, after all these years..."The Man in the Raincoat" Sweeeet!!!

A bit creepy, especially that voice.
Excellent quality. Boris Karloff's voice doesn't hurt, either. The stories are weird and creepy. Nothing I wouldn't listen to at night, but just a bit weird and off. Great to give to someone who likes old horror.

What a treasure!
Boris Karloff reading radio plays of the macabe is truely a joy to listen too. I wish I was young enough to listen to these old radio shows. Listening to the radio with all the lights off It will take you to the place where he asks you are you one of the frightened. And you would have to answer yes!!!! His voice is haunting enough but the creepy tales and the dry humorous ways he exits the story are AWSOME. The sound quality is excellent!

I had this on L.P. many, many years ago.
I had almost given up on having these wonderful stories to enjoy again as an adult. They actually frightened me (in a thrilling, Halloween sort of a way) when I was a child. Having them again to listen to on my iPod and iPad is wonderful!

Boo-ris Karloff at his best
A little known Karloff project from the 60's. Well worth having in your library. Turn out the lights, play any of the stories and scare the hell out of yourself and your friends!!

Tales of the Frightened
A mixed review for this CD. I purchased it because I was interested in listening to Boris Karloff read some horror stories. He does do this but the stories are no more than 1 or 2 minutes in length. None of the stories are particularly good unfortunately. The only selling point for this CD is that the listener gets to hear Boris Karloff who provides excellent narration for some rather poorly written material.
