very good
Not even close to shave ready, I had to start bevel setting it with a 400 grit diamond plate; it also arrived with some rust spots on the blade. The strop is ok. I am still giving it 5 stars. The blade shape is very good, and the steel is also good. After sharpening, it shaves wonderfully.

Ok razor, Mildew on strop
Razor was okay but the strop had picked up mildew in storage. I returned the first one and the second one was the same. Manufacturer needs to include a dessicant.

Really nice, happy with purchase.
Shipping was really fast. The razor came with a useable edge, just not as comfy as i like it to be. But, after i took it to the hones, it took a VERY nice edge, with very little effort. It shaves as smooth and easy as my historical razors, and the edge does NOT fail after several shaves, and i have not hit the pasted strop yet. And no sign of it being in the neer future. It is a good size razor, with good heft, and nice hard wood scales. The pleather sleeve is a nice touch, and the strop, while not top notch, is a nice travel piece. The razor is 6/8, and feels nice in hand. I am extremely pleased with this purchase, and have zero regrets about it. If you are on the fence about this, get one, and you will not be sorry.

Good buy for what it is and for the price... just keep both In perspective
I’m a little familiar with gold dollars I guess “custom” series? I know what issues you could possibly run into like for instance my example has a pretty easily visable bend in the spine. In my opinion I know they can do better because iv seen them. There’s no reason someone should have looked over this razor and over look a bend/twist in the spine and and an off set edge grind. And it’s also not acceptable in my opinion to possibly have noticed these issues and have them said “eeeh good enough”.... no it’s not. I wasn’t expecting perfect grinds or flawless pinning or even a real impressive finish on the steel but to have all the mentioned issues that I can live with but the twist/bend in the spine and asymmetrical grind along with what would have been a nice travel strop if they would take just a small amount of care to ship it properly instead of using the strip itself as if it where packing material or something.... I think this product has great potential as a really really nice affordable shieffield style razor if you wanna just try the style before diving into a collectors piece or a custom in this styling. I would be happy to pay a little more for some more predictable quality in there products. I hate always feeling like I need to order 3 of anything they make to be able to pick out what I think is a “good one” and send the rest back. In hind sight that may actually be a good way to approach the issue of the Q.C. Here but overall I’m not bad with fixing stuff up and I think I can get the razor to a condition of not only a quality shaver but also a so bad razor to look at. It may just take me 6-10 hours or grinding polishing and rescaling it.

First Gold Dollar Razor.
I'm new to straight razors. I do have a few vintage ones, but, this in my first new one. It feels well made and substantial in the hands. I had to hone it before using it, but, that is something to be expected. The strop is made of a soft leather and it does it's jod.

It is Actually Shave Ready!
I bought this as sort of an experiment to see how it fares against my other blades. Only four stars because I did not receive the Barber/Spanish point blade depicted in the photos. Instead, I received a spike point with a slight inward curvature from toe to spine. I’m not really sure if the scales are wood. They certainly feel like plastic to me. At this price point, I don’t think it really matters, though. With that said, the blade was most definitely properly honed to 10,000 grit! While free floating the blade over my arm, it plinks some hairs. After stropping, it plinks as well as my 12,000 grit honed blade! Overall, because of the price and sharpness, I’m satisfied with this purchase, but I would prefer the blade in the photos. I will update this review after a few shaves to comment on the balance, ergonomics of the tang & tail, and how the edge holds up.

Beautiful razor, excellent price
I’m not sure if some bloggers on this blog are purists or what, but this razor was shave ready right away. A pasted strop is always a good idea immediately before shaving to obtain maximum performance. The Sheffield type design, hardwood handle, and carbon steel keenness is absolutely the best bang for your buck at this price point or ANY price point. Purists need to recognize! The strop is one of the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a few. Update: This razor holds a GREAT edge and after 3-4 shaves performs like new. Although I recommend this for an experienced user, I highly recommend this as a gift to yourself or someone special. Update: A great edge and lineup tool as it STILL retains a keen edge.
