Great Tablet from Cambridge Sciences
I bought this tablet basing my choice on the many excellent reviews. They were right. I've had it for three days now and it has exceeded expectations. To begin with the packaging is very stylish and it would make an excellent gift. Wifi reception is strong and it is incredibly fast. The screen is a joy, so responsive that makes typing very easy. I took it through it's paces...basically downloaded lots of apps including a 3D game. Download took all of a minute or two and the game worked like a charm. I also hooked it up to my laptop and installed my own music and movies. The resolution is fantastic. I tried my headphones and the audio is good too but it sounds better when I tried it with my laptops mini speakers. I streamed Youtube and browsed and the battery lasts at least 3 hours non stop keeping in mind I was setting things up the way I like them. I can't find any faults except it may be a bit heavier than other tablets because of the glass screen but then again a glass screen can't get scratched. It's excellent value for money and hooking it up to my TV was no problem either. MP4 MKV and WMV files look awesome and they were my primary convern.Overall it does what the makers claim it does and I am delighted with it. I do suggest you get a microsd card because you will need it and insert it before you switch the tablet on for the first time so you won't have any trouble. I also downloaded some ebooks (a first one for me) so basically i think I went through most of the features. The manual is easy to understand but if you already own an android phone it's easy going, if not then you will be converted because this takes it up a couple of notches for the better I must say. Well done Cambridge Sciences! You have a new fan!

I'm a novice and I was initially very impressed BUT....
I'm a fairly competent PC user but a total tablet and android novice and I was initially very impressed with this piece of kit. I bought it on the strength of what other reviewers had written on Amazon, plus the price of course. I gave it 4 stars to begin with and there were just two reasons why I didn't originally give it 5 stars - here's what I wrote about those reasons then: -1. I haven't really done that much with it yet and so can't make any comment on how well most of what it does works! There was no point in delaying writing my review though, because it will take weeks for me to become more familiar with it (if not more likely months).2. Like several other people apparently, I had to wait for a second delivery before I was pleased with my product - the first one that was delivered was faulty, or at least the charger was, and the Starpad didn't seem to work properly either & certainly did something quite different from what the instruction book said it should when I turned it on. (My replacement did excactly as the instruction book led me to expect.)I also wrote the next 3 paragraphs when I submitted my original review, a few days after receiving my replacement tablet: -On the subject of the instruction book - my only complaint with that is the print's a bit small - even on the book which came with my replacement item. It's pages are about twice the size of those in the first book, which I needed a magnifying glass to read! The content of the instruction book is good though.I'm slightly disappointed that the charger supplied has a European plug, but an adaptor was supplied and it does work perfectly well. It's just a bit clumsy to plug in, but it's not a serious issue. And that's about as much as I can say really except that the web browser is very fast & easy to use and since I got going with the new one, I haven't had any problems whatsoever apart from having to learn about using touch screens. I'm having a fabulous armchair internet browsing experience with my StarPAD, am planning to put all my photos on it for great handbag-size (and weight) convenience and am very much looking forward to getting some new apps and having fun experimenting with lots of things that are new to me.AND THEN.........Within less than a week of delivery of the 2nd new StarPAD, it stopped working - it just wouldn't do anything any more beyond showing the first couple of screens, then as soon as the screen said, "moving forward" it completely stopped moving forward and remained on the same screen indefinately so that I could do nothing whatsoever except manually shut it down. The Cambridge Sciences helpdesk, accessed via their website did respond to my emails and tried to offer help up to a point. This was reassuring to a degree as by then I had read some comments where people said no-one replied to queries sent to the helpdesk.I was told I needed an update to the tablet, however as I couldn't turn on the tablet this update could only be loaded onto it using further equipment which I did not posess, therefore trying that potential solution was not an option for me.When I informed Cambridge Sciences of this they then offered to replace my tablet if I sent the one I had to them first for their inspection, however I did not take up this option as I had purchased my StarPAD from Amazon and so chose to return it to Amazon as my contract was with them.Perhaps "third time lucky" would apply if I did ask for another StarPAD as a replacement, and it is always possible to get a 'lemon' no matter what sort of machinery one buys, but after 2 'lemons' in a row, I now intend to purchase a tablet PC produced by an alternative manufacturer.

Neat tablet, nice price
I had been looking for a tablet - mainly to access books in various formats, but also for a bit of web browsing and video watching. An iPad would have been minimum £400 and also a bit bigger than I really wanted. So I had a browse around and settled on this model. So what do you get for your money? A generic Android tablet (there is no actual branding on the device) which has had some branding ("Cambridge Sciences") added to the software and box. The device itself seems well made, and sits in the hand nicely, so is great as a book reader. The device is black from the front, but has a white, gently curved back.It weighs more than a paperback and about the same as a hardback. Physical connectivity is fairly good (audio, separate sockets for host and client USB connection, a mini HDMI connection and a micro USB slot. It has an on/off button, a rocker switch that operates the Android 'menu' and 'back' functions, a home key, a basic, front facing camera, and a rather tinny little speakerAnd of course a screen. A good one. Resolution at 800x480 is good if not fantastic. Brightness and colour are excellent, and the capacitive touch screen function is very responsive and nice to use - unless you try to use it with the power supply connected, which for some reason causes it to behave erratically. This is OK watching films and reading books, but don't try to type an email when it is plugged in. Watching films and reading books is a pleasure. One small gripe - there seems to be slight mismatch between the physical and electronic form factor of the screen - making circles slightly elliptical. If showing photos of figure-conscious friends make sure you keep it in portrait orientation! The Android 2.3 operating system runs well on the 1GHz processor, all the apps I have used run well, and there are a useful number of pre-installed apps. The movie player isn't great though (it does not remember where you got up to), so I bought one off Android Market for a small sum. That is the only app I have bought though, all my other app needs I have satisfied for free. As expected, there is a huge range of apps out there on the UK market. One slight irritation is the android implementation thinks it is running on a phone, so you often get re-directed to phone optimized websites, whereas in landscape mode 800 pixels is wide enough for most standard websites. The device has WiFi of course, but no other form of wireless connectivity, though it will accept a bluetooth 'dongle'. There is no GPS or compass, so any AR functions are excluded. It does have a gravity/acceleration sensor, so tilt type games will work. I've not really tried that out however. I have the 8GB version, but 4 & 16 are available. The MicroSD slot will take up to a further 32GBThe 'host' USB slot has limited functionality - perhaps down to what Android allows. It will accept a mouse or keyboard, or even a bluetooth dongle. But it does not seem to connect to external data storage such as a card reader or memory stick, which would be useful. It comes with cables for both mains and car charging, and a little cable which converts a mini usb socket into a standard one, and a normal mini usb to standard usb cable for hooking up to a computer. The instructions are minimal but just about adequate, though a moire extensive guide in electronic form on the device itself would be useful. All in all I am very pleased with my new 'toy' having had it about a month. And Quality Stores, who sold it to me, have excellent after sales service. I was trying to source an two pin power supply (as I am currently in Italy) and they were very helpful.
