Starring Tom Burke from Strike & The Musketeers and Rob Brydon A Cock & Bull Story and The Trip. The film tells the story of young Napoleon - a masterful soldier and tactician. Napoleon Bonaparte's courage in the field of battle sees him rise from a Captain's ranked officer to establish himself as one of the greatest generals of all time. In 1793 at the age of only 24 Napoleon Bonaparte displaying a dazzling combination of political cunning, personal bravery and military genius took control of the local French troops and lead them to victory and drove the English fleet from Toulon and captured their strongly defended fort, thus establishing his reputation and saving the Revolution. This battle turned on the tactical genius, immense bravery and boundless ambition of one man: Napoleon. Ultimately, French victory at Toulon saved the Revolution. But it would also set Napoleon on the road to greatness. This is one of the great stories of how, through force of extraordinary personality, one man can bend history to his will.

Uncle's Christmas
Tom Burke before he got noticed as Athos in the BBC's adaptation of The Three Musketeers and before he became a household name as Cormoran Strike he played Napoleon Bonaparte in this TV movie. Rob Brydon after seeing him do light comedies was quite good in a serious role-playing Louis-Marie Stanislas Freron, Napoleon's rival.

Excellent take on this event...
But due to the limited runtime it feels rushed and it leaves one craving more.A series about Napoleon's youth up to and including the Italian campaigns would have been much great fun.

Excellent portrayal of Napoleons early life
Well acted & portrayal of Napoleons early career within the Revolutionary period, when he was also driven by care & responsibility. for his family. His ambition & ability are well illustrated.

Good - as far as it goes (maybe not far enough)
Great acting, without doubt, but too short a film, leaving us wanting to know more. Perhaps more like a TV drama than a movie? Certainly, however, an insight into Napoleon's early career, a subject not always as well covered as the later days.

Entertaining and surprisingly accurate
This movie was entertaining and, as far as I am aware, historically quite accurate. This last point was a surprise for me because it is a BBC production, and I do not equate BBC productions with honesty or accuracy—especially in this 'woke' age.
