One of the best herbals ever written
I really like how it documents how each herb’s use changed over centuries. Includes growing and harvesting instructions as well as recipes

Great Herbalism
Volume 2 of "A Modern Herbal" is every bit as good as volume 1. It is an herbal writtten in another age by a woman who knew her subject very well. She continues with her list of herbs and explains the uses each herb had in her day, much of which is still valid in our modern day and age. She throws in interesting tid bits from her times about various rules and laws regarding certain plants, which ones were allowed and which ones were not. While today we have much scientific backing and knowledge for the uses we have for herbs, it is amazing how much of her information is accurate in the light of todays scientific findings. I recommend both Volume 1 and Volume 2 to anyone who has a serious interest in herbalism and herbal remedies. I also found it interesting reading. -- Valerie Lull, Author, Ten Healthy Teas

A dense book for serious study
This is a well-researched and readable book. Mrs. Grieve gives historical context to the uses of most of the herbs and the book does have handsome illustrations, though these are all black and white - not a book for wild crafting or cultivation but brimming with info.

Great Addition to the Herbalists Library
It's a classic by way of herb books go. The information is old. It's more about the historical understanding of herbs and illnesses, rather than the current understanding of herbs and illnesses. So, for that part alone, it's worth every penny. I like to know the historical background of a plant's relationship with humans. I have both volumes. I think it's an important thing to have access to. Although, these are completely viewable on Margaret Grieve's website. I just prefer the hard copy that I can touch and hold.

It is a History Book of Folk Medicine
This book should have been sold as a set with volume 1. There is a lot of information and I is a fun book to read. It is Pre- FDA regulations so there are plants that are not in the new books. Got to do the research.

Essential Herbal Reference
I had Mrs. Grieve's Modern Herbal several years ago, and lost it in a move, so I was thrilled to find the two volumes of the paperback issue. It is an essential reference for the serious herbalist, with historic information as well as taxonomic. It is not an herbal recipe book; one has to have a good idea of what herbs do. It is Anglocentric, but includes descriptions and background for herbs all over the world.

Superb
Maud Grieveis a well known figure and is one of the all time experts on herbs. This is an exceptional herbal. The Kindle Version has the advantage of being easy to take out with you when looking at herbs and has a good search function. With regard to the information, this herbal gives a very interesting and well researched background to both the folklore and the medicinal uses of a huge range of herbs. This is head and shoulders above any other herbal that I have ever used, the information is superb, across an amazing range of plants. If you are interested in finding out a lot more about a wide range of herbs then this is the book to go for.Superb

The best book on Herbal in my library!
I have found Modern Herbal books content over internet online and was astonished by generous amount of details, very descriptive texts, plenty of rare uncommon facts and very accurate information for publication on herbals dated 1920s!!! I became very anxious to obtain this book for my personal library at home. I have found that the reprint is available for order at amazon from trinity city books. While my exemplar show some signs of damage, this paperback book itself is made so properly in order not to wear off during yet very long time! Number one book recommended for everyone interested in herbals, botany and reprints of old books!
