Last two laptops have had very flimsy Ethernet ports. Constant plugging in and unplugging damages them. This reduces the number of times the laptop port is plugged or unplugged, I leave it plugged in all the time. The two provided ports are very sturdy and don't seem to suffer any damage when plugged in and unplugged.

This splitter only worked on one female connector, waste of money.
