Hope for those with memory disorders
A detailed plan for making major dietary changes for a healthy brain, backed up by the latest scientific research. I have seen new energy and alertness in my husband since beginning the nine-week diet. Beware: it calls for commitment from the caretaker to read nutritional labels, track nutritional intake, clean out unhealthy brain foods from the cupboard, construct new menus, and locate new recipes. However, the plan is not just for those with Alzheimer's disease. Anyone over age 65 should profit from this approach, including the caregiver.

Great, concrete steps to minimize risks of Alzheimer's
I purchased this book because my brother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at age 60 and others relatives (grandmother, aunt, etc.) were diagnosed very young. I really felt hopeless and overwhelmed until I bought this book. While I read the results of Alzheimer's studies daily, it is difficult for a layperson to translate the study results into specific dietary/behavioral modifications. This book was so helpful because now I am taking my 2 packets of Cocoa via per day and drinking my coffee, eating my strawberries, reducing my carbohydrates, etc., and being even more committed to my exercise routine. There is a fair amount of food that you're supposed to eat, which has had the happy side effect of keeping me too full to eat junk and resulting in weight loss! No guarantees but at least sticking with the easy to follow plan in the book lets me feel that I'm doing everything I can to avoid this terrible disease. It is easy to understand and follow and explains in a clear way the basis for each recommendation.

This book has good information
This book has good information. In this fast-paced, anxiety-ridden society, the book can be pared down, substantially, with better organization and accessibility for instant look-ups. The information contained within is good, basic knowledge. If the targeted audience is for beginners with at least 1--2 years of college education, or for medical practitioners looking for solid basics to share with their patients, then I recommend this book.

An excellent resource, just filled with information
An excellent resource, just filled with information. Plenty of back-up for just about every proposition put forth. Very honest in the cases where more research is needed to really nail down some contention. Even if you have other books on the subject I'd pick this one up just to reinforce things and you're bound to find something new.My one complaint is they seem very cautious about the rate at which they want people to start making the necessary lifestyle changes. E.g. in week one of the nine week plan one makes no dietary or exercise changes. One just plans ahead, reads labels and records what one does. That would drive me bananas. Go to the grocery, buy some spinach and have it for dinner tonight. Of course you can do just that.

Alzheimer's diet book
Great book! Highly recommend!!My husband and I are creeping up on our 60's and growing concerned as there is a family history of this terrible disease on both sides. We both just finished our first read-through and are now reading it again as we both start the diet. Really great book overall; my husband and I are both floored by how much we have learned from reading it. We really appreciated that the authors are up front about the fact that this is not a miracle cure and that any diet takes effort- indicates that they're not just peddling something to make a buck. Also loved the fact that the things they recommend are based on science as opposed to somebody's opinion (there's so much garbage out there!). As a result, my husband and I are both super excited to begin our new brain-healthy lifestyle! Thanks!!

Good resource
This book has a lot of good information about what to eat to prevent Alzheimer. Purchase it for my mother who already has Alzheimer's. She does enjoy reading it and re-reading it although its recommendations are beyond the scope of healing for where she is at. I however am definitely taking its recommendations seriously. This book offers dietary changes that are very practical to apply!

Wow, It really works!!
When I first started reading the book I was skeptical that a diet could help improve my memory. However, I was wiling to try it since there's not much else available for prevention or treatment. Luckily I am at an early stage but my family has been pushing me to do something. I didn't want to take any more medication so this seemed like a good thing to try.You definitely have to put in some effort in the beginning but, after doing it for about a month, I am actually noticing some improvements in my memory! I can recall things a little easier, like names, which has been tough for me in recent years. My family has also started to mention that I seem more `with it', which makes me super happy. Thank you!!

The diet
Although interesting, when I came to review the foods I could eat they were all things I was allergic to or intensely disliked. So where do I go from here?
