Beautiful knife with a strong, deeply etched Damascus pattern
The Damascus pattern on this is very nicely done. It is etched deeper than on the other two Damascus knives I have, you can feel the ridges in the pattern as you move your finger across them, it's quite nice. The spine of the blade shows the pattern too, and it's very dense and intricate there, very interesting to look at. Fortunately the blade does not have the company name on it as shown in the photos. The knife is very comfortable in the hand. The bone is quite smooth and polished. I'd actually prefer a bit more naturalness here so that the knife isn't slippery when my hands are sweaty. But maybe that will come with time as the polish wears down. This is my first hawksbill knife, I got it primarily because I was attracted by the Damascus pattern. It seems most suited to utility purposes like cutting rope or opening boxes. It seems a pity to use such a nice looking knife in such a pedestrian way, but at least it'll be a pleasure to see it each time. The only downside is that the knife is quite heavy - 6.3 ounces on my scale, almost double the weight of my regular utility knife which is all metal and 3.5 ounces. It's also a very wide knife when closed, about 1 7/8 inches at the widest. Not really a pocket knife. But that's OK because it comes with a sheath. A really thick and solid sheath, just like the knife.
