Great For Sharping
I only own pricey, great chef knives. I've been a chef for over forty years, and many know me, follow me, and buy off my recommendations. For my knives, I use various sharpening methods, including stones, electric sharpeners, and steels, to achieve a fine finish. This diamond steel I purchased after reading great reviews. As noted, it's one that sharpens more than hones. After using them, my knives were all razor sharp. For sure, I recommend this product. Know, over time it wears down, so replace when you notice the steel losing its coating

Decent
Works well, but it has a few spots where the knife blade will catch slightly on something protruding from the surface a little. I can't feel the protrusion(s) with my finger, but my fingernail can catch on them.

Solid buy
It's a solid buy if you use it every once in a while. Mine is use at work ( I work in a slaughter house) every day. Really help keep knives razor sharp. I noticed its loosing its grit slowly and looks like I would need a new one in a month or so.

Decent combination of a honing steel and an actual sharpener.
After doing a little bit of research into knife sharpening and how the process actually works, you learn that thing that came with your knife set isn't actually a sharpener, but a honing steel. With a honing steel, you're not actually removing any material of the blade to make it sharper, you're just pushing a bent over edge back into place. It's easy to use, but is really only a temporary fix. An actual sharpener will remove material and physically change the surface of the blade. However, it's hard to master and can result in a lot of frustration until you figure out a good technique. This seems to be a kind of combination of both. It looks like a honing steel but has a diamond coating which does remove some material to help sharpen the knife. It seems to work well enough and my knives do feel sharper, however I question whether I'm actually "sharpening" them or if I'm just aggressively honing them because the edge doesn't seem to last long and I have trouble getting them as sharp as I would hope. I feel like a lot of the diamond coating wears off after awhile, so durability and effectiveness as a sharpener could be the issue, but it's hard to tell. It's a decent value for the money as a quick fix, though. If you want a quick and relatively easy way to make your knives feel sharper, you'll probably be satisfied with this. If you want to get your knives razor sharp and stay that way for longer, you'll probably want something more advanced.

Sharp Enough to Scare My Vegetables
Only used this 12” diamond honing blade a couple times so far, but it definitely does something—my knives went from “butter-spreader” to “surgically concerning” real quick. Seems well-made, feels like it could double as a medieval weapon if things go sideways in the kitchen. Can’t speak to long-term durability yet, but for now it’s doing its job and keeping my blades sharp enough to make onions cry in fear before I cut them. Will update if it ever gains sentience.
