Item arrived faster than expected from FedEx. Wooden crate slightly banged up, but hey, it's a heavy anvil. It survived well! The casting is decent. The best part: I dropped a 1 inch ball bearing from 24 inches and consistently rebounded to 21 1/2 inches. Do the math - that's a 90% rate of return!! It doesn't get better than this, especially for the cost. Bounce was fairly even across the entire top, with the hardy area being only slightly less. Decent anvil to start a shop with.

My husband was so surprised with this purchase I got for his Christmas present. He loves it! He has been wanting one for awhile. It is great quality, cast steel, very balanced. Great purchase!

I’ve been using this anvil for six months or so. I’m just a hobbyist, but here are a few pros and cons. The Pros. Good rebound! The face of the anvil is quite hard and has good rebound. The horn is softer, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as I don’t do a lot of heavy work on the horn. The face is flat! This is a big one! You about can’t find an old anvil that still has a flat face, and when you do they are really expensive. Traditional style. Unlike a lot of the new cast steel anvils, this one has the traditional London style. Not really a big deal, but I prefer it. The cons. The horn is not round. The horn is closer to a rounded triangle shape than truly round. Depending on what you do this may or may not be a big deal, but for me it is kinda annoying at times. There is almost no step where the face meets the cutting shelf. Most London pattern anvils have a significant step down from the face to the shelf, which can be used almost like a v die. But on this anvil there is only about an eighth inch step. The casting is pretty rough. While this doesn’t directly affect the usefulness of the anvil, just know the casting is pretty rough. The hardy hole is small. Not really a problem you’ll just have to make smaller shanks on your hardy tools. The edges are all sharp. This is normal, so not really a con. Just know as with any other new anvil you’ll have to dress the edges before using it. Overall I’m happy with it. For the price it’s hard to beat. And if you’re just a hobbyist like me. It’ll do all you need it to.

Honestly it was the best price for value anvil I've found online ever. Arrived in good shape obviously, weight seems accurate. It's a great buy and I'm glad I got this one instead of another. My forge setup is great now.

This actually appears to be a good anvil - I don't write reviews, and especially for things that the seller asks me to write a review, but I'm actually a fan of this anvil. I am a working artist blacksmith, 20 yrs experience, and this anvil doesn't suck. I worked on cast steel anvil similar to this purchased 23 yrs ago from HF, and it wasnt nearly as good as this, and I still use it from time to time. This is not a Hay Budden or peter wright, but it's a quality piece with decent hardness and rebound (and it's also not $10-$15 per pound). At $2 per pound, it's a very good deal and I highly recommend this to anyone venturing into the smithing field

The round hole and the square hole is not correct. They said 3/4” and no 3/4” tools will slide in. I had to mill and drill them out to use them. It takes carbide drill and a 5” long end mill and a milling machine to open them up. If you don’t have the right machine shop tools you won’t be able to use the holes.

Got this item sooner than expected by three days! This sample is exactly as they advertised. I’ve been doing some blacksmithing over the last year when they say this amble has a 70% bounce, they’re exactly right. If you get a good bounce it reduces arm fatigue because you don’t have to put as much energy into each strike.

Be advised the hardy whole is only 3/4 inch. Not a serious issue but majority of tools are 1". Ill probably still buy 1" tools and cut off and or add the 3/4" needed.
