Pretty decent tablet
Good points:- IR remote control feature very useful - did not expect that- Picture/screen very good- Interface is reliable (touchscreen)- Read books and surf the web, Iplayer etc all pretty good- Connectivity good: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc.- Water proof (never tested but reassuring)- SD Card reader for previewing pictures from Digital camera - Brilliant feature!Weaker areas- Battery life - 6-8 hours- Bought a dock to charge it more easily, pretty inconvenient if using the fiddly connector- Android OS can be unstable, have to re-boot a lot as web-pages lock-up, Chrome is the same so uninstalled itThis has restored my faith in Sony products and when this unit dies would get another Sony - looked at Nexus and iPads - just don't do it for me as they don't take extra memory or aren't as nice to use.

Deeply flawed
I am a big Sony fan so it pains me to give this item 1 star. This is a lovely item in all respects except for one fundamental flaw that basically renders it useless and I am frankly shocked that Sony have allowed this item to be distributed with such a major shortcoming. The Wi-Fi issue that you can read about in reviews here on Amazon, or on forums across the web in general, is real. The first unit I had from Amazon developed the problem in 4 days. No amount of trouble-shooting could resolve it. The unit would simply not talk to the BT Home Hub Wi-Fi router when all other items in the household do with no problem. I would also remark that while the unit was working, the Wi-Fi strength was very low compared to all other items in the household, even when only a couple of feet from the source. This is another trait I have since found widely reported on the web. Sony support (sounding resigned and not at all surprised) advised me to seek replacement from my retailer. Amazon duly replaced, but the replacement unit had the same fault straight out of the box. Completely un-useable. This item was sent back for a refund and I now have the Samsung Galaxy Tab which is happily working with the same router. This Sony unit clearly has a fundamental design flaw and frankly, should not even be on sale. Very disappointing.

V.good but problems initially
I love this Tablet and used it all the time back home, but now that I'm in halls of residence at Uni, I have no use for it as I can not connect it to the internet to download any apps. It would be useful if it had a USB slot as then I could connect it to my internet (as I don't have a wireless router) and make full use out of it.Also, when I initially bought it, it did not allow me to download any apps and kept popping up with little messages saying ridiculous things that didn't make any sense. I eventually had to get my sister to sort it out as she's good with technology. It is cute though - works like it should do and a very nice size. I had to additionally buy a case for it as I was scared that I would break it.Delivered on time and packaged well.

Quirky with problematic WiFi
Well, after a week at home, the Sony S Tablet looked promising:+ The size is okay.+ The usual Android capabilities all seemed to work.+ The IR remote capability is novel, if a little basic.+ An OS update applied okay (I think it was up to Android 3.2.1).+ Works really nicely with the official dock that we also purchased. But then we took the unit on a family visit and ran into the Wifi problem described by many others (as I have since found): The Wi-Fi said it was connected but nothing would work over it and the signal was not strong, even when standing a few feet from the router. Three other HTC smart-phones, an iPad, a MacBook and another two laptops were working fine over good distances, so it went back for a refund, not fit for purpose.Apart from that, other observations:+ The shape (rounded on one side) is very comfy - a bit like a bent-back magazine - if your application allows that side to be on the left (or right, depending on your handedness)...- ... However, not all apps work all ways up (!) and when it's not the comfy way around it's quite uncomfortable to hold as the weight is now wrong. Not really Sony's fault that apps are limited in this respect, but a consideration all the same.- I personally found the unit to feel a bit "plasticky" and "hollow" in the hand.- The bundled Sony Entertainment Network software seemed clunky and difficult to register and set up. There's so many other alternatives I feel they shouldn't have bothered taking up the memory with them!- The flaunted "Playstation Certified" sounds promising, but there are only a handful of games available via Sony's Playstation game market app.So overall, feeling let down by the product - I expected better from Sony.

At first it was brilliant
At first the product was brilliant. Of course it lacked the quality and feel of an ipad (notably the plastic screen and the tacky power connector), but it's significantly cheaper... and it also has a few good merits the ipad lacks. (easier to hold, works as a tv remote, USB... etc). Was very very happy and would have given it 5 stars.until The Ice Cream Sandwich Android update came along.I might be particularly unlucky, but all of the apps I use most either stopped working altogether (simcity, ign) or now suffer performance issues (netflix, angry birds space).I'm still using it every day, and netflix works most of the time (once it gets going) which is most important for me. But I can't give a product that doesn't work like it should more than 3 stars, especially after it did.I would recommend the product in its own right, but I would advise anyone buying one to carefully consider upgrading the OS from the one it ships with. at least look on the google store at recent reviews for apps you want and see if people are reporting problems.I don't think these issues are exclusive to this tablet.
