The Survival Medicine Handbook: THE essential guide for when medical help is NOT on the way

the survival book
The Survival Medicine hand book, 3rd editionJoseph Alton and Amy AltonISBN 978 098887 2554Now this is another book that causes issues to us other here in the UK, as the book is written by an American for an American market. Which for the UK or Europe market normally misses the mark massively? When you see “made in mericia” this side of the pond we expect the first line in the book on first aid is. “Walk up to patient with your shotgun in hand”. Or “Using your Glock to make suture holes to sew the patient up, we recommend 5.56 for this role!” The whole imperial thing we also find hilarious as well, take a 10cc syringe and inject 3 oz of blah blah, lol.So now we know Pete is not a great fan of American books you will be surprised to know he paid £20 for this one and had Amazon ship it to Blighty. Such is the faith I have in these two writers after watching many of their you tube videos. When you get this book in your hands for the first time you are suddenly struck with the fact this is not the normal American waffle manuals we see so often. These people use their words wisely and with purpose. As people that really have thought on every word, had the book edited professionally and had a large about of reworking done so we have a book I want to read. The next massive surprise in this work is the list of topics covered. Many only cover deep wounds and bullet holes but we have here bones, sprains and child birth (not in the same chapter. Both writers clearly make a case for this book at the beginning which is well aimed. A book for when help is not coming, not as uncommon as you would think either. You are not going to read chapter four and know how to do a gall stone operation but you do have the information to deal with that situation or before its required, learn where to get further information and ideas from.Practically speaking the book is well written, well presented. Has a clear font and text and is an easy on the eye read. There is few pictures or drawings but that’s ok as it’s an informational book not a do it your self guide. This is the book where beginners like me need to start our medical home training. So to summarise, yes its American but I don’t hold that against them. Its well written and clear and a great reference guide. In Europe on Amazon its roughly around £20 and well worth it at that cost, I would say its easily still worth while at £25, if you can find a 2nd edition for less then get that too its still worth it.

Great resource for being prepared for medical issues
Excellent book for anyone who wants to be ready for a worst case scenario where medical help may not be available. Well written and easy to find any illness or injury along with how to deal quickly. Pretty comprehensive and although written for an American audience is careful to avoid losing readers from other places.

You never know!
Very thorough read. Bit repetitive in places. Just wondering how and where to obtain some of the supplies! Would be useful if ever needed.
