A reliable, heardy, and nice looking watch.
I have worn and used the "G-Shock" series watches for a VERY long time and found that they perform well, and survive through life's toughest trials without any hick-ups. Most of the time (say every 5 - 6 years) I replace the entire watch as they get REALLY worn on the OUTSIDE and/or the band fails and it is not all that easy to get, exactly, the correct band to replace the old one --- and the band looks NEW while the watch looks tired.) Anyway, these watches take a beating and keep right on going, water -- NO ISSUE, shock, I pound nails, fence posts, and generally abuse the watch day in and out. I have a ranch and don't pay much mind to the watch when working but it NEVER fails to provide ALL it's functions, no matter what. If you need a really tough watch, this series is IT at a reasonable cost, the batteries last for a VERY long time, even using the night light often, and they provide a LOT of functions which are useful for most people. This is the best I have found over my (fairly long >>70 years) life time.

I like it
The numbers will be tougher to read for some, because of the negative LCD display. It was meant for military use - when backlit, the display is easy to read up close but the light it harder to see at range and easier to conceal. In broad daylight or a well-lit room, I have no trouble. And…it’s a G-Shock! All that legendary durability and water-resistance, plus it’s a nice style. The graphics above the numeric display make tracking passing seconds very easy. That number that appears on the band? It’s the module number for that watch - the module is the electronic timing device inside the watch itself, what on fancy mechanical watches would be called the “caliber.” All Casio watches with the same module have identical operation. Many 6900-series watches use this module, so it should be very easy to figure out.

Tough
Bought this watch to take to OSUT infantry training and it held up great. It's been totally submerged in water, beaten on, covered in mud and sand and still looks and works great. Not a lot to the watch but it's tough as nails and is still serving it's purpose. 5/5 would recommend l.

Great Watch! I'm an explorer for the local community ...
Great Watch! I'm an explorer for the local community fire department and I'm being sent to an explorer academy for a week, and I knew I needed a better watch to replace my cheap and simple one! I owned a G-Shock before but sadly lost it many years ago, but was amazed how durable and well built it was! So when I got my acceptance letter stating that I was going to the explorer academy, first thing I did was I searched up G-Shocks on Amazon! I wanted a simple black model G-Shock that will look presentable/professional during on/off duty, so I browsed and compared models/prices. As I was scrolling, this watch caught my eye, an old friend of mine had the same model and I loved the matte black and the red accents it had inside the watch when I first saw the watch. So of course, I bought the watch, it came with free same-day shipping and a couple hours after buying the watch, it was already on my wrist! I've had the watch now for about a week and I have already recommended my explorer friends about G-Shock and this particular model. Trust me, this watch is worth EVERY DIME! And its not just for this model, it's for every model! There's a reason why many of the firefighters and police officers I know own G-Shock, it's because its durable, it's professional looking, and can withstand extreme conditions! If you guys/gals think this watch is expensive, IT'S NOT! It's a great quality watch at a great price and if you want to buy a watch the will last you many years, G-Shock is the watch to go! Since G-Shock is considered the official "unofficial" watch of the Navy SEALS, isn't that enough to convince you that this watch is extremely reliable? If you are still unconvinced about buying a G-Shock watch, than I suggest to watch "G-Shock Torture Tests" on YouTube (also on the G-Shock Website under Technology).I'll post another review after I return from explorer academy and discuss how this particular model handles extreme heat/abuse!

1st is it just me or does this thing seem smaller than other dw6900 g skanks?
Seems smaller then my other 6900's almost like a freekin baby g. Now that thats out of the way, ok just like every 1 said its hard to read the time, I found unlike what other reviews have mentioned its even harder with the back light, cause the numbers go from red with a black background to blue/purple with a black background but doesn't really get too much lighter, or at least not during the day like my other 6900s do. That being said I think its harder to read a blueish purple over black then red over black. Another con is if its supost to be military watch and its all black with lil red, why not have a red backlight? I mean red lights are the only light that wont ruin your night vision and force your eyes to redilate, but no they give it this blue purple that then makes me wonder, why the red writing by the eyes and why the red numbers normally then? Casio messed up with the backlight on this model in my opinion. On to the good stuf, the matblack, black buttons and black clasp along with the eyes turning solid black as they do their thing looks soooooo dope! This watch is the 3230 not the 1289 so unlike the pic, it wont say 1289 on the band but rather 3230, so that's good it will keep the date tell 2099 vs 2039 like the old 1289 ones from back in the day. And lastly, is the price, its the 3rd cheapest gshock around, can pick these up for $70, $60 on a good day only other g shocks in this price range I know of is the dw690cb4 and the dw6900mf2, have both :P
