Good snug fit and smooth rubber outside
Good jacket for less floatation. It is nice and snug and low profile. Not as much floatation as my Oneill Law pfd but they don’t make that anymore and I wanted the smooth neoprene style. I’m 5’9” 190 and I purchased a large because I like it snug. It definitely is snug but has a good amount of give to it so it does fit. The floatation is less but I only needed some because I’m on a lake not white water with it and sometimes wear it with a wetsuit which has floatation too. Over all it’s a nice jacket it u want a low profile, snug fitting with less buoyancy. Looks great too.

Solid item, best for the tall & skinny
I'm 5'8", 165lbs, 39in chest, 32in waist -- some love handles but no spare tire. The Size L works for me but it's cut for somebody taller and skinnier. Fits my chest well, but the waist I can only barely stretch enough to close the zipper, and it's a bit longer than ideal. I expect the waist will break in with regular use. Build feels good, I think it should last awhile. I wish it had a pocket on the back or side. I was glad to have the vest in overhead surf. It didn't seem to constrict paddling or duck diving, but I felt it got me surfaced a little bit faster when I did get worked. I'm sure it'd help a lot if my leash were to break, also I know a guy who busted two ribs wiping out on his board, and this does provide a little protection around there. Flotation: I found that *if I lean back* then the vest can just barely keep my head out of the calm sea without me treading at all. It's not a PFD, just sharing this to give an idea of how much it does float.

The most Comprehensive review of this
Hoping to make this the most comprehensive review of this. I've been surfing for 8 months now, skateboarding for well over 15 years, so I think this will help many. Firstly this vest will not save you. It's not designed to do that or float you. This has less buoyancy than a wakeboarding comp vest so don't go into it expecting for this to even reach the standards for floating as that does. I think this vest is meant for a specific set of surfers. I typically will wear this under a wetsuit (or bare) for two reasons. 1. It' 20+mph winds during Florida winters and I need the additional 1.5mm for thickness. This does an excellent job of helping to cut down on wind. It's not "warm" persay, but it does block out maybe half of that wind chill purely by creating that additional neoprene layer. 2. It's semi big, or at least big for Florida and because I'm still pushing a 8'6 around I know i'm about to be worked on the paddle out. This provides just enough float for me to take 5-6 set waves, ditch the board and have enough float to not exhaust so much energy literally treading water, but enough sink to be able to dive underneath waves. It will JUST keep my head above the water and sometimes will skip you along the wave a little easier that getting held down. It doesn't so much RIght you up as it does give you the tiniest bit of control when getting worked or held down by waves. I use it primarily for this. An additional layer of energy consumption when trying to push a log out because it's near impossible to duck dive it. I think this would work ok for an intermediate type surfer who's main goal is getting out and better on waves, than a beginner as it would provide a slight crutch that you should learn without. Advance and especially advance shortboarders proabbly wouldn't benefit as much as they can duck dive and float, but the slight warmth and wind protection might help. For reference I'm 6'0 and 175 lbs. This fits fairly snug on me. I have a more slender basketball body. Take that as you will. Hopefully this helps others. Enjoy the waves brothers and sisters.

Size matters!!
I ordered this item to support me in a TV Production that is 50% in the water on the North Shore of O'ahu, Hawaii. I'm 5' 12" (yes it's 6 feet)...220lbs Hawaiian Sound Boom Operator. We are built differently. This vest is better a corset on someone than a water vest. I got it on in the morning. But if I eat just a boiled egg...this thing would fly into wall or hurt someone behind me...so XL is definitely for skinny Crack heads or kids 12 years old or younger...nice but not. Sorry..
