Lots of theory not much practical application. Book also seems a little dated.

Really helpful for people who want to study real-time embedded systems, especially on Linux. The basic theory of real-time is implemented on the book.

Way more theoretical than I expected
Very thorough analysis of embedded systems from the theoretical side. It started out using Air Traffic Control (ATC) as an example to be analyzed, and as I am an aviation enthusiast, I thought the book would keep my interest. I made it about half-way through, and gave up.

NOT WORTH WHAT I PAID FOR IT, TOO HARD TO FOLLOW!
If you are an instructor, PLEASE! do NOT under any circumstances get this book for your students. This book is incredibly hard to follow. For example: instead of showing a formula like this U=e(i)/p(i), the instructor will simply state, the utilization of the periodic tasks is the execution time divided by the period. It has taken me hours to do my homework with this "textbook." There is a group of us that gets together to attempt the homework, it takes us hours. Most instructors would feel this is worthwhile because it puts students into the textbook, except that most formulas are NOT explained. My instructor is having a hell of a time trying to figure out what Ms. Jane is talking about in the texts when it comes to formulas.Again, PLEASE, do NOT under any circumstances get this book for your students.

Extremly hard to follow and understand.
This book might have a lot of information in it but it fails to produce it in a way that is easy to understand. I throws up tons of equations with very little explanation as to how the equation is produced, and what the variables represent. It also has extremely long run-on sentences sometimes spanning several pages. To quote Einstein "If you cannot explain it simply, then you do not understand it well enough". This book does not explain things simply at all. I'm sure it's easy to understand if you know the material well already. Which kind of beats the purpose of a text book.

A plain and comprehensive one.
I will say this book is really the best book I have ever read in the field of real-time systems. The author is a distinguished researcher in this field, as no one will doubt this. The book covers all the issues(new and old) in the real-time systems. Written in plain language with ample examples, the book is easy to read. At the same time, the author deliberately maintained the depth of the book, embeded the theoretical stuff in it. However, I have to say this book mainly focuss on the hard real-time systems. Maybe this is because soft real-time is still a new issue in this field. Keep this book if you are a researcher in this filed, or you are a student studying this course. You'll have the same feeling with me.

Great book!
One of the best books I read about real-time systems. It gives a good introduction to real-time systems and contains many theoretical information.
