Nice improvement for basic model
This seems to be to be equivalent to the HD 8 Plus from the previous gen. It is fast enough for a basic consumption device (unlike the basic HD 8 from the previous gen, which I found frustratingly sluggish even as an e-reader). The screen quality is just good enough. And I mean that positively. Its actually good enough without being unnecessarily gorgeous like an iPad Mini or something (For comparison, the Fire 7 is NOT good enough, in my opinion).I love the screen size AND the bezel size. I really appreciate that Amazon's designers understand than many of us want a place for our thumbs. Smaller bezels are not always better. Also, having tried both an iPad mini and a Lenovo M9 tablet, the curved edges on the back on the Fire do make it more comfortable to hold than those otherwise more premium devices.Keep in mind that my five-star review is mostly about the balance that Amazon offers regarding quality, usability, and price. If people want a full-featured tablet that can handle more than books, movies, and basic games, then consider an iPad or a more premium Android device. You might not get all the apps you want from the Amazon app store, and not everyone will want to figure out the necessary steps to get other Android apps. Plus, they might slow the device down if you do get them. But for me this is mostly an affordable (especially when on sale) quality full-color e-reader, and I love the look and feel of it.

Kindle Fire 8 HD
I've had older versions of Kindle Fire tablets. I actually had the original 1st edition fire tablet, and it was slower than molasses in a snow storm. This tablet is light years better than the original, but it should be due to technology advances. It's a great tablet that has great features and battery life. Once it's set up, and you've made all your personal adjustments, it's really a great value! It runs on its own operating system, (not Android, or Apple) though I personally feel, Android users would feel more at home with this operating system. The Amazon app store is better than when it first launched, but not as deep with apps as you would find on Google Play, or the App store for Apple. Non the less, you should find plenty of variety to choose from, and most apps are free. If you're a Prime member, you will love the ability to watch Prime shows/ movies right from the tablet. If you're an avid reader, then the Kindle reading app is great. I feel the 8 HD probably has the perfect screen size, as it sits right between the size of a larger cellphone, and a smaller laptop. This size tablet also makes it easier to hold, and easy to store when traveling.

Functional and perfectly sized
I'm not sure why there are so many tech and gadget reviews that pan the Fire HD Tablet. I already own an 11" iPad Pro and an 11" iPad Air but I wanted something sized like my old iPad Mini that I can use to read, surf and watch movies in bed. I think Apple has priced its Mini out of the "just use it to surf, watch and read" market. I'm certainly not going to use it to edit, write or do any work on, it's too small to do anything effectively, I bought the Fire HD 8 10th Gen 2 years ago and side installed Google Play Store so I can get all my apps that I have on IOS. But the Android OS is too dated and a lot of my apps would no longer work or update. I bought this using the upgrade and trade-in discounts so price was like $50. It does everything I want it to, all the content apps I have on IOS work just as well here. It's bright enough and loud enough for what I want but most importantly it's small and light enough for my needs. I don't really care about the camera, Bluetooth, latest Wifi spec, connectivity with my Apple devices, I just want to read, surf and watch on it and for that it's perfect and the price is practically a steal. I don't have a problem with the ads, just ignore it when not using.

Great tablet, but the apps are not all that great...
Got this as an early Christmas gift (2024) and I love this tablet so much. It makes it easy for me to use my communication app (I am autistic and can have trouble speaking sometimes) and it's such a great tablet and the quality is super nice. The screen has great quality as well and the picture on the screen is super sharp, which is nice. Apps are a bit slim, I think that's the right word for it, but there are some apps that I wish were on the tablet that aren't like discord, tumblr, snapchat etc. and I don't want to download some sketchy extension in order to use Google Play, which is really dumb and I shouldn't have to do that. That's the only downside of the tablet, but I wanted to make sure it was here in the review so that people who want to buy this tablet can see the transparency of it. Other than that one issue, the tablet is a great thing and I was super excited about receiving it from a friend for Christmas. I use it a lot to play free games and use my communication app and I use it to take notes for DND nights with my friends. It's great and I recommend it!

Replaced an older version with this!
Can't go wrong with kindle. Confused why the power on/ volume buttons were moved. But so the same excellent product. Very easy to use. Touch screen is great. App availability is great wish we had access to Google Play store. With a case it is very durable. For the price I feel it should come without ads.
