5 star on all counts as long as coating holds up
So far I give this a 5-star review, however, time will determine whether the coating holds up better than Ember. I like the larger 18 oz size of this mug, and the feel of the coating. I defected from Ember mugs as their coatings do not hold up over time. Considering the cost of these mugs, I want it to last more than a year and not worry about the coating material seeping into my coffee or tea--not to mention it just looks gross. What I like better than Ember:1) Nextmug is a manual operation with simple on-off and temp buttons on the base of the mug. It can be set to one of three temperatures (At first I was setting it to the highest temp, but found that the second one is better for me for an easily drinkable temperature.)2) I also like being able to turn it off when I finish the cup to prevent the congealing of remnants on the bottom of the cup like happens often with the Ember mug (yuck), and that it doesn't drain bandwidth from my wireless network.3) Also I found that Ember mugs would not heat the liquid back up if it had cooled down (this happens if you have the mug off the charging coaster for too long or leave it sitting for too long). The Nextmug also has an auto shut-off, but it will heat the drink back up if you reset the temperature.4) I like that they include the lid with your purchase. This helps keep the drink hot longer, which preserves battery life.Tips:1) I don't use a metal spoon and keep a plastic spoon (you know, one of those heavier duty ones you get from the froyo stores?) by the coffee pot to stir sweetener or creamer with these mugs, just to prevent unnecessary scratching (as I did with Ember), and only hand wash as per instructions from the manufacturer.2) I have also purchased two additional charging coasters so I can have one by my living room chair and by my desk where I spend the most time, and one in the kitchen for overnight charging. All I can say is if the coating material doesn't degrade like the Ember mugs have (I've seen this happen on the three different Ember mugs we've owned as well as several my daughter and husband have purchased), it will hands down be my preference and recommended self-heating mug option. I will update my review if I see the coating begin to degrade, but I purchased this in Nov. 2024 and so far so good.

So far so good....Much more impressed with this than the ember I had for the last 3 years.
This is a really early review but I defected from the ember ranks after my mug went bonkers and their customer service wouldn't return any contact emails. Why do I like this so much? unlike the ember which was overflowing at 14 oz, I can make a 16oz k-cup and still have room to spare! The small small ember cup was the final deal breaker in the end. I found 16 oz is perfect for me for maximize one k cup pod which aren't cheap these days. I like the lid concept to so I can run off with it if needed and not worry about spilling it everywhere. no app with this but it doesn't seem to need one and the ember app was very problematic and often needed reset. It would be nice if it were auto on but not a deal breaker. Other report this is auto off, I haven't verified that yet, will revise if it doesn't work or if there are any issues with battery life or operation. All in all this is appears to be an awesome mug, keeps the drinks almost too hot on the highest setting and I like my drinks really hot. Big beefy manly cup.

Just what I wanted
I love this and use it daily. It’s wonderful that my coffee stays hot, even if I walk away from it for a moment. I also like the bigger size, as some of the other heated mugs, only come in smaller sizes, which don’t work once I add my creamer. I only use the lowest setting though, because it really does keep it quite hot.

This really works!
Color me happy - this actually works! For years I have tried a number of these coffee heating products, including the previous version of the Nextmug, and this is the first one that really keeps my coffee as hot as I like it - in fact, hotter than I can drink. I absolutely love it! Also, since the cup heats up and not the pad/coaster it sits on, it's safe around kids. (My grandson came close to burning his finger on a previous such item that didn't even succeed in keeping my coffee hot.)

Works great but can be tough to keep clean
So I was thrilled with this (gift) mug and it works very well for keeping my coffee at temp. I tend to get distracted so in the past it always got cold (or worse, Luke warm). So 80% awesome. The things that take off a star (1) if you use cream or half and half a scum can develop if you take too much time like me (I can for get for an hour and so for normal people this likely is not a problem). But it is still at temp. (2) related to one, it’s hard to keep clean since can’t soak or put in dishwasher. Again if you drink coffee/tea black you are A-OK - you can just rinse and wipe. But if it’s a thicker milky substance the afore mentioned scum can get baked on to the sides. But I do love my coffee hot so to me it’s worth having to do more work to keep it clean.

A race against time (aka, the limited time it stays on)
Yes, it warms/heats your beverage however, it does NOT do so for that long, even when the mug has been on the charging plate overnight. Typically - and logically - i dont turn the mugs warming function on until the coffee starts to get luke warm and it does heat up fairly quickly but if i decide to go for a second cup, i turn the heater function "off"... if i turn it back on during that sip-session, it doesnt last thru heating the remainder of the second cup.Does it work? YesDoes it work well? NoDoes the price reflect its performance? Absolutely NOT! Ridiculously overpriced for what it fails to do.

The best of the bunch!
This is the best option out there and I tried the top three contenders. The most elegant is the Ember, but it has moisture problems that corrode the base, leading to failure. It also does not stay hot as long as the Nextmug Plus. It is also the most expensive. I l liked the Smart Self, especially the phone charger, but it was too tall to fit in my espresso maker. The Nextmug designers thought carefully about details. For example, the metal that might corrode if it gets wet is protected in a small raised bed. The controls are easy to use and do not need syncing with a phone. It stays hot the longest, and is the cheapest of the three!
