Genuinely interested in engineering? Prepare for disappointment.
SummaryThis is an informational book about Engineering with activities geared toward girls. The book features 10 "cool engineering activities". Each project includes an introduction to the build, the supplies, the instructions (with photographs), and an "Insider Info" section which explains some of the science involved. Projects range from really science-y, like the "Alarming Fun" to the projects designed to draw girls into science with something they presumably already enjoy, like making "New Jewelry from Old CDs." There is also a glossary, recommended further reading, and a URL for some more websites to visit in the end material. My ImpressionsWhen I first picked up the book and looked at the list of projects, I thought that the book wasn't scientific enough and it was perhaps a bit patronizing. I hoped that perhaps the "Insider Info" sections would address my want for some hard science, but I found myself still slightly disappointed. The coolest project was "Alarming Fun", which at least involved some electrical wiring. The rest were more like regular crafts and the "Insider Info" just applied science to the craft. There were a few typos too. Overall, I was not very impressed. I imagine that young readers who pick this up and are genuinely interested in engineering will share my disappointment.

Great book
I bought this for my 9 year old daughter for Christmas. I thought it would be a book just for her to read since she's all about anything STEM. This book was much more then I expected it has so many actual projects for her to do. The projects are not complicated she's done about 5 of them so far and has a lot more picked out that she wants to do.

Nice
Lots of cool ideas. My daughter likes it. Note: it is a thin book.

Great Projects
I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my 8 year old daughter. It is a small book but after reading it I love the projects it has. I look forward to seeing my daughter's brain tick. The projects I think are meant for girls a bit older than 8. But 8 is a great age to explore these projects with an adult.
