Perfection
My God, what an artist Polidori is! I have a lot of his books and his Havana is my #1 favorite in my collection. There isn't anything he does that isn't first class and the Introduction is sublime. Let yourself swim in these ghostly images and find poetry of a kind you rarely meet.

Robert Polidori
A beautiful book, itself a work of art, with Polidori's extraordinary photographs.

Definitely worth a look!
I really liked this book, bought it pretty much speculatively and I wasn't disappointed. I have been a little wary of this type of photography after having bought the incredible "ruins of Detroit" just purely because the quality of that book sets an extremely high standard for any other ruin themed work. On my first look through the book I loved the quality of the images and the colour of the abandoned apartments although having recently gone through the ruins of Detroit I skimmed through that section quite quickly but was amazed the photographs in Beirut, colour is a very strong theme throughout the book but also as suggested by the image from Versailles on the front cover Polidori has very compelling compositions which transform the ruined buildings into M.C.Escher style mazes. Excellent images as well from the aftermath of hurricane Katrina (I think) and the study of Versailles was fascinating and a side of the castle only an extremely small number of people have ever seen before. I had a compulsion just days after I finished the first look through the book to go back again without previous ruins photography as far to the front of my brain and I have to say the apartment photography is top notch as well with great colour and a very human element to the destruction which is thematically quite different to other post industrialisation or post military themed ruins in other books.
