Godfather [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Watching the Godfather trilogy was one of those things I felt I had to do before I die, because it always comes up as the winner of best film of all time-type polls. All my family and friends have raved about these films, but I was always deterred by the sheer length of them. But as there was nothing on Tv over the Easter weekend, I thought - a perfect opportunity to watch the lot!Oh dear. What an overrated film. The audibility of the dialogue is awful (I thought the Brando cotton-wool impressions were overexaggerated til I saw this)and nothing happens for about 75 mins. It does improve after this and the last 10 minutes are good, but all in all I didn't feel it warrants its legendary status. "The Road to Perdition" is a much better mafia film.To be fair, if I'd seen it on its release in 1972 I would have probably been impressed (zeitgeist and all that) but it's simply too slow and the wedding scene at the beginning went on for almost as long attending the real thing! To all Godfather virgins, I'd say, watch it, so you can have an opinion - but be prepared to ask yourself what better things you could have done with those 3 hours of your life.
