Purchased these to teach cub scouts how to use hand tools. Both units failed while drilling their first hole. Low quality, not worth the money.

Maybe I'm just being a tool snob, but these hand braces don't approach the quality of the 3 vintage braces and the 1 modern one that I already own, mostly in terms of the finish and machining. Just feels more loosely put together than my other ones. The fit and finish on both wooden handles were poor...scuffed and dented and looks like they were made from scrap wood. Both of them had something like cardboard stuck to the lacquer finish at the point where they were probably lying down to dry. The wooden crank handle is too tight and doesn't spin freely around the steel frame like all my other braces. The top wood handle is too loose and wobbly. The chuck is also a bit wobbly. Inside is a collet, as opposed to the jaws you find in a lot of vintage models. It's made of very thin metal that gets thicker closer to the collet jaws. At the end of the day, it works, and the ratcheting mechanism is pretty smooth, but for this price, I would rather find a nice vintage one.

We bought two of these to give my little grandsons (10 and 5) as their "cordless drills"). They appear to be pretty heavy duty and should stand up to hard use.

Perhaps I just need to alter my technique when trying auger bits. The problem is that it doesn't want to securely hold the auger bits and allows them to slip up into the tool, rendering it to be useless. No matter how much I tighten it, after a few seconds of turning the auger bits (all sizes that I've used) slip up out of the "fingers". I don't know what change I can make in drilling technique as there are only so many ways to do things. In theory, this should work just fine. In practice, it does not. Currently, I would not order these again, but would go with a more expensive, higher quality tool with definite better gripping power.

Added to my toolbox as use for emergencies when power is out. Looks decent, handle has a good fit in my hand, seems pretty good value for the money.

I may be a nerd for these human powered tools. To be honest, sometimes the power drill isn't really necessary when you can power it yourself. Also, as an emergency item, this is a sure bet. I understand there are adapters to use your hex bits with, and I am going on the hunt for that next plus a set of augers. These screw down to clamp the bits in place just like a power tool, so no key needed. These turn smoothly with good clean threads. These were a great price for two. And you know you really need more than one so you don't need to change out the bit as often. The palm piece is a nice coated wood, and it turns smoothly. You can change that out if it wears, it looks like, as it has three screws that attach that piece.
