The Frozen River: A GMA Book Club Pick

Just loved this book! I'm a huge reader, and this novel with its engaging, marvellously written story about a midwife and a mystery in 18th Century New England captured my imagination in a way that rare books do. Many months after reading it, it still resonates -- a truly memorable read! If I could give it 6 stars out of 5, I would. Read it! (I have a friend who loved it so much after my recommendation that she purchased several copies as gifts after reading her own!)

A beautifully written historical fiction - based on the true story of Martha Ballard, a midwife and healer living in Maine in the 18th century...a realistic depiction of the ways in which women of that time were treated....a great read, possibly a little long, but a fascinating novel...

I love reading historical fiction and this is a masterpiece. Hands down the great book. Great writing and so wintery feeling and cozy.

Excellent
