Lots of intriguing information about many artists over many centuries. Excellently written and a good read.

Thoroughly engrossing and enlightening. Martin Gayford draws on years of conversations with artists and weaves them effectively with his own insights and knowledge. Highly recommend.

A smashing book for the artist's coffee table 🎨

Unfortunately Im out of the return window. The book has faulty printing in multiple pages of the first chapter, making it illegible. It's like double vision. Such a pity.

You can't go wrong with Martin Gayford and Thames and Hudson. A thoroughly good book

I found Gayford’s writing interesting and insightful. I especially enjoyed the range covered, from ancient cave paintings to contemporary, and the various conversations the author had with artists about their practice. Well produced book with trove of beautiful images!
