But for our use, it is not a good option. Not saying it's not a good transfer board, but it isn't ideal for us. This transfer board is very sturdy, with no flex at all. The plate glides smoothly when someone is sitting on it. It's plenty long enough, but I think the foam pads in place limit its usefulness for a transfer. The board itself is thick (a bit over an inch), with some added thickness of the plate. We have found that the thickness makes it a little difficult for someone to get "started" on transferring since we have to hoist him up onto it. For someone who has their wits with them still, it's straightforward how to transfer over. But for someone with dementia, it might not be so obvious. We have found that thinner transfer boards that are slightly curved work best.
