Submariner experience minus absurd pricing
This is the best choice for those who are looking for a nice automatic diver that doesn't cost more than a car. Hype aside, the Rolex Submariner is a high quality and attractive watch meant to last generations. Unfortunately, the company behind it gatekeeps their timepieces behind absurd pricing and pure snobbery. Even if you had $10k plus (and a lack of common sense to part with it) to put towards a Rolex today, you would be put on an arbitrary waitlist based entirely on what they see as your value as a customer. Instead of all that garbage trying to impress people who don't deserve it, take a small fraction of that money (invest the rest of it) and get yourself a San Martin SN0017. This gets you 95% of the way to the crown brand: reliable movement, quality materials (sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel) and durability to make this a high value watch worth considering. Some dismiss this is a knockoff or a copy, and I think that just buys into the elistism. Conversely, I think that San Martin have proved this can be done just as well at 5% of the price. Judged on its own the San Martin is a quality watch filling a gap in the market: Those of us who want a very nice watch for work or dressy occasions and aren't duped by marketing. Now that I've given my two cents on philosophy of brand elitism, I will share that I've had the watch for about 3 months now (I wanted to give it some time to provide a long term review) and the movement is very accurate, it tends to gain around 5 seconds in 24 hours and overall there are really no visible scratches or flaws that have shown up. I don't baby it either, it's an everyday watch. I highly recommend it, very high value at this price point.

Consider these before splurging on a big name.
Probably the best “homage” watch made. Plus, they offer their own designs as well. Prices on San Martins keep going up, they are a popular choice among budget watch nerds. As they have become so popular, on-hand supply can be an issue. Other considerations would be….Casio, Citizen, Tissot, Seiko, Orient if you are looking around at different watch’s in the “same” category. IMO. If you’re looking into a high end watch, these are offered at a fraction of the cost to “try out” before spending big money. Not a fake, not the real thing…they are something in-between. Great materials at a good price. You’re not getting the big name branding or status. Good watch to wear every day and travel without “flashing” an advertisement or your personal status.

Great value
I’ve been wearing this as my work watch for a month to test out the Chinese movement. I actually love this watch. It feels durable, keeps time great and has good power reserve that so far has beaten my Miyota 9039. Barring anything happening in the near future I’ll give it 5 stars. Good buy for the price.
