David Busch's Sony Alpha a7R III Guide to Digital Photography (The David Busch Camera Guide Series)

Very good but could use some clarity.
Very complete book in general although the author sometimes mentions some topics that he states belongs in a separate article or book. I occasionally would have preferred he delved into those topics. The author does a good job in explaining most features but I would have liked if he gave more detail in selecting camera settings. He sometimes is vague in why he selected the settings he chose to use or states "NA" for a setting without explaining what the "NA" stands for besides what I assume is not applicable. How can a setting be not applicable unless the photographer chooses not to use it. I would have just enjoyed a little more clarification or simplicity in the book. Overall, the book though is invaluable in learning the Sony A7RIII.

This is a necessity: a manual and guide
This is a practical manual, well illustrated, for your Sony camera. I think that it should be a necessity for anyone owning such an advanced, modern camera. Without instructions, you really cannot operate a modern camera well, and yet the makers seldom produce materials which interface well with the normal human brain. To go with a manual, one needs illustrations. This book has many, full-color depictions of what one actually sees in practice. It is not only a source of instruction, but an invaluable reference.

Best Camera Manual I ever bought! A "must have".
I am a professional photographer with 40 years of experience and had everything from view cameras to Leica M's. I only read the manual (other than a quickie) when I need it. However, during Corona times I had some free time and decided to check out what my Sony 7RIII had under the hood. I also have a 1 & 2. This book is perfect. Easily written, great illustrations, no stupid jokes, and to the point. I found many things I did not know. It is ideal for beginners and advanced users. EVERYTHING is covered. The PERFECT manual.

Good reference.
Good reference but some things are not logically accessible.

Another Excellent Busch book
This is the second book of David Busch's i have read. The first was on my first camera, Nikon D7200, and this on the Sony A7Riii. If I get another camera, I will definitely get another of David's books. This book was excellent for covering the details of this camera. I particularly like his explanations concerning focus, autofocus, and exposure. The suggested settings are also very helpful. Unfortunately Sony needs to work on the Imaging Edge software (replacement for PlayMemories described in the book). This software does not yet allow transfer with the supplied USB cable to a Mac running Catalina 10.15.3. Sony says they know about the problem.

It is very easy to read and he explains issues and recommends settings ...
I have several of David Busch's books and I continue to refer to them for tips and operational help. I recently purchased the Sony A7R iii and as usual, the so-called help guides provided with the camera were not very helpful for advanced issues or basic issues. It is very easy to read and he explains issues and recommends settings and why they are recommended. I had several advanced issues I could not solve, so I sent David an email. I received a reply and an answer to my issues within a few hours. Really appreciated the rapid reply and his interest to fully reading my question and understanding my issues before sending a reply. I do hope he will update the book when new issues develop that need explanation.

Great optics, great sensor, confusing menu and controls
I'm a professional photographer who bought the camera based on the top rankings of its sensor and optics. Those are superior as reviewed widely. If you buy it, read the manual by Sony and guides by others carefully. Check the default settings vs. what you really need before you shoot to capture what you care about. While the sensor is far better than most a high ISO, experiment with the conditions you are going to be shooting in before using beyond 3200.

Organized
This book gives the same information as the manufacturers version but it is far more organized which makes it easier to find what you are looking for. I have had another book by the author and many area of instruction are just a cut and paste from previous guides. In view of this camera's complexity, I found that the organization made understanding the equipment much easier and faster. It is not a must but you won't regret having it.

David Busch's writing and photography skills come to the fore
David's knowledge of the camera nearly covers all the things you want to know about the Sony a7R III's capabilities. The book is also great for referencing or reading from start to beginning.

Much Better than the Sony Manuals
This book helps clear the confusion that the Sony manual creates. Together with some YouTube videos this helps get the menus set up so you can get out shooting.
